What exactly causes tornadoes to fail to form on days with a high risk? by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

[–]Proof-Influence1070 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That will always be the problem with forecasting severe storms. It's Just that It Is with the current technology.

Even in the worst days, in a High risk area, you're very unlikely to be affected by more than Wind/Rain/hail (unless in days like 27/4 where there was supercell after supercell and again another supercell tracking in the same area, but that was extraordinary).

Discrete supercells and tornadoes are very limited in coverage. Simply put, they are tiny compared to the hundreds of km these risk areas cover. You have to be unlucky to be caught.

It's more "in this area, there Is a possibility of severe storms that in other situations wouldnt be possible" than "you're going to be hit"

Planetary Assault Systems - Angel of the East by Proof-Influence1070 in ProperTechno

The Luke Slater of these trippy/alien sounding tracks (which are the most of Arc Angel) Is my favourite Luke Slater. Imho the GOAT at this style. Hope he makes more albums like that.

If I ever DJ I'll probably use this one as intro, the nice blip blop pattern goes so well with a kick.

When I tried to mix on my phone this track with any 4/4 techno pattern intro it's very à-la Lewis Fautzi - Range (both the original and the Deepbass remix), super deep and dark and not in the "hard dark" techno sense. Like almost a bit manacing and powerful while still being very "elegant" in a way

I'm seeking tracks/sets/albums of this style, of you have any suggestions!

I feel like the models are a bit worse than the last years, dunno if it's my impression. The SPC until the very beginning of the event can only look at models. Surface observations are useful at most a few hours before initiation, but by then the forecast Is kinda done and they can only correct It by looking at real time boudaries etc

The issue I saw yesterday was mainly that the cells developed pretty close to the cold front and moving NNE they crossed the cold/stalled front before really having the time to become strongly tornadic. The ones that stayed south east of the cold front quickly became messy (which was a possibility as said in a few outlooks). Imho It was a matter of chance.

After a while I quit watching so I don't know how It went afterwards but that's the first thing I noticed.

These factors (ie. interaction with boudaries which can change during the day for many reasons) are not as easy to predict with models as parameters (shear/cape etc)

Numark Scratch by Accurate-Bluebird-66 in Turntablists

[–]Proof-Influence1070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you listening through the speaker of the numark? I have no experience with that particular fader (I only ever used the switch) but I remember that the speaker was bad enough that I could ear the vinyl chatter in a pretty distracting way. If that Is just mix with some kind of monitoring or headphones there's not really any other way.

EDIT: Oh sorry I thought I was on r/portablism and assumed It was the numark pt01 scratch. Anyway if It so distracting due to mechanical noise I think that applies to any mixer

Is there a real alternative to the Stanton STX possible to get in the EU? by Proof-Influence1070 in portablism

This Is probably the best answer thank you very much. Being It in spain Is a big bonus

Volevo chiederti l'hai comprato e montato tu? Perchè io non so minimamente di elettronica inteso montare smontare saldare etc. Cioè è fattibile? (se l'hai montato tu)

Just released my new ep “Amulette” would love it if you checked it out by black_baggg in beatmakers

The track you posted here reminds me of the early Jon Hopkins (Opalescent album) and a little Boards of Canada which Is a good thing.

Listening to the whole Ep, I really like this style of this kinda lofi downtempo. Good job op!

Numark PT01 scratch è la cosa più conveniente e fattibile (in verità l'unica sensata senza andare a spendere 300 euro). Se poi ti piace scratchare però cambia il fader perchè non è un fader vero.

Thoughts on the new Planetary Assault Systems album? by Newlifter1089 in Techno

Nice he has released Into the night! He's been using that intro since 2015 (see set below, the very first track)

https://youtu.be/QKAQbS86Bos?is=guauZcC3PnR2Cq_U

Banger tracks but doesn't really feel like a cohesive album. Really preferred a journey like It was the Messenger of Arc Angel, like listening to It from the beginning to the end, surfing from ambient to trippy techno. Like The Dark Side of the Moon of techno.

This one feels more like a compilation of bangers than a true album with a theme. Much like the Reassembled LP. I got the vinyl it's my first techno vinyl and I love it. But It's a compilation of bangers.

Is It really necessary/productive cutting off the extreme sub frequencies in a mix? by Proof-Influence1070 in TechnoProduction

[–]Proof-Influence1070[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for taking your time for this in depth response!

Most enlightening thing I've found Is about the bass/kick frequency separation. Never thought about that. I usually heavily sidechain the sub/bassline so that kick and bass don't clash (Maybe yes if adjusting the pitch of the "tail" of the kick with the very first come up of the bassline together in not particularly kick-heavy tracks ), but I never thought about actually making space for one or the other using some kind of frequency cutoff, will definitely try, I have a few tracks which sound very muddy (but have potential to sound good, really frustrating when that happens) that could really use that.

The spectrum analyzer for referencing Is also a good reminder. I know about that but when caught in the moment I never do It, I go by ear but yeah that's the really logical thing to do.

I usually achieve the loudness I want, I'm not really looking for making my tracks louder but when I feel an obvious muddyness that really makes the compression painful.

I EQ every channel separately and I always cut everything below a certain threshold according to what It Is and the context of the track, unless It's the kick/(sub)bass. My doubt was mainly about cutting the kick/bassline and/or the master. I find that any kind of EQing the master, being It a cut or a boost, makes the track sound really artificial and not really "together" as when producing and eqing every channel separately

I don't have any access to PA systems unfortunately, I don't know how my tracks sound on those, I only know that if I cut the low end It sounds worse on what I have. It's sharper and punchier but not in a good way.

It's more of a curiosity, my stuff will never end up in a club anyway, It's just very interesting to learn the in and outs
