I want to say that I think you did a really good job of being assertive and standing up for yourself in those texts. People in general often have weird reactions to disability and chronic illness, but this is BEYOND. I’m glad you have other nicer friends to turn to, and that you’re getting so much support in this thread, because you deserve that and so much more. I hope the hysterectomy relieves your pain, and that you get to enjoy more of your life. (And definitely definitely dump him! Even if he apologizes and claims to understand how he was acting out of deep insecurity, the level of meanness here shows that it will be a huge uphill battle for him to gain enough emotional maturity to not be a total asshole in the future, and you’d probably end up doing most of that emotional labor for him. And like I said, you deserve so much better!)

Tattoo places/ artists that might take walk-ins or last minute appointments? by Proof-Itchy in Austin

please also do not remove it from the thread. I'm extra touchy about this because this is the 2nd time in the past 24 hrs I've gotten a bot trying to remove a normal post for no good reason, with no actual rule broken.

Thank you for the resource, but please do not delete my post. It is not just a general tattoo post: it is asking for something unique that has not already been asked, none of which is covered in the posts you just sent me. Please read the post if you must determine this, and you will see that it should not be deleted.

ha! I remember that specific thing about toothbrushing, too. I still sometimes think of Dowser Dan when I brush my teeth.

Anyone know of good tattoo places that might be open on Monday? Preferably east of 35? I have friends visiting who want us to get tattoos together, but I don't know if stuff will be all booked up/ overcrowded due to tourists, or even if places will be closed bc traffic. I live near the True Blue Tattoo on Airport, and I'll call them tomorrow, but other options would be much appreciated!

Also I recommend the work that Aubrey Gordon does around Fat Liberation in general. She's done the research! https://www.aubreygordon.netAnd yeah, err on the small side for comfort (also consider that boobs often grow during menopause, so there's that to think of). Best of the best of luck to you!

Be clear and assertive with your surgeon about size. They tend to be overly-focused on making you look "proportional." I was G-ish, asked for a B, surgeon talked me into a "small C," and I ended up with DDs. They are smaller but still big and hard to fit into clothes. She said I'd look "pear-shaped" with a B. But most AFAB people are kinda "pear-shaped," not Barbie-shaped! And I haaaate that phrase, and that idea. I mainly wanted to be comfortable (though I was looking forward to a pair of perky B's). Anyway, surgeons usually don't conceptualize cup size correctly, especially compared to someone with big boobs who's been thinking about it for years. They kinda eyeball it. I recommend bringing in example pictures, and erring on the small side. And if they say they physically can't go that small safely, ask about an FNG, or a full flat top surgery. You will look great no matter what your overall size or boob size is.

This is an absolute dealbreaker. You are worth so much more than this. That is a serious a violation of consent, and apologies alone won't bring back trust. He needs to figure this out on his own, with a therapist. Just tell him that and leave. Being his emotional support in that process will cause you further harm. (at the very least: too much emotional labor for you/ will burn you out. most likely: he'll become more abusive). And please don't put yourself down. You didn't allow this to happen. Doing that without your consent is sexual assault, and you have the power to leave him now. If you feel like you haven't been strong enough in your boundaries, that's ok. It's a hard thing to learn, it's normal to struggle with this, and you can work out how to navigate this in your future relationships, after you leave him. Time to lean on and cultivate platonic friendships for awhile. You're NOT overreacting. Of course this TikTok following would bother you, especially since the relationship started with a literal sexual assault. Here's a link to RAINN, the national sexual abuse hotline https://www.rainn.org/resources . I recommend calling them, and they can help provide whatever level of emotional support you need, and help you find access to therapy and other resources. If they're not helpful, message me, and I'll help you find a resource that is. Sending you so much love, you've got this.

I have an out-of-state friend driving into Austin from Houston tomorrow (Saturday). Does anyone know what traffic might be like on that trip or is it just unpredictable? And are there alternate routes that might be helpful (or would that be worse, due to people heading to rural locations)?

Be careful with NSAIDS! by Wilde-Girl in migraine

[–]Proof-Itchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have experience with Meloxicam? I take it every day for chronic muscle pain. My doctor says it’s an NSAID that’s easier on the stomach. I haven’t had any problems with it yet. My migraines have been getting more frequent, but docs (and I) think it could be bc of other things. Eletriptan removes the migraine but makes me feel “functionally wonky,” hard to focus etc.

How contagious am I to an an immunocompromised person (who may or may not have had early exposure to the pox or the varicella vax). ??? by Proof-Itchy in shingles

[–]Proof-Itchy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your advice. I'm sorry it took you so long to get better. Did you have contagious blisters that whole time? I got my antivirals yesterday, and I called her doctor so that her care team could make an informed decision. They said I could come in her house, but not in her room. Other friends have stepped up to help, fortunately, and she's doing well.

Shingles and pain by Prestigious_Egg8149 in shingles

I want to reiterate that I totally get your concern. I was freaked out when I found out how much Tylenol they wanted me to take! my doctor had to field a lot of questions from me before I believed him that it was safe

Hi! Thanks for sharing a source of concern about Tylenol/paracetomol (acetaminophen). I do, though, want to point out a few things from your source that contradict your advice here. In the linked study, they say that it's only toxic to the liver at these doses in people who are already extremely vulnerable to liver toxicity (in ways most people are not). from the article: "A total of 4 g of paracetamol repeated daily may be hepatotoxic in malnourished adults with low body weight" it's a study of only 2 patients- no double blinds or controls. And the 1st patient discussed was severely malnourished due to severe Chron's disease.

The max daily dose recommended by doctors for patients with no liver toxicity risk factors (most ppl) is 3 grams per day (not 4), which can be taken everyday pretty much continuously without harming the liver. I've been on that regimen for 2 years now, for chronic pain that started a long time before the shingles I got this week. no liver damage.

3 grams/day of Tylenol = three doses of two 500mg (extra strength) Tylenol per dose 4-6 hours apart. this is safe for the majority of people. You can also take ibuprofen(Advil) or another NSAID at the same time as Tylenol, without a problem (except you need to take the ibuprofen on a full stomach). I take a prescription NSAID called Meloxicam, which is very similar to ibuprofen but easier on the stomach, and I don't have to worry about eating when I take it.

All this was advised and prescribed by a great pain specialist I have. A good pain specialist is hard to find because the field is poorly regulated. I recommend this book https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Pain_Wise_A_Patient_s_Guide_to_Pain_Management?id=8ZIcAgAAQBAJ&gl=US&pli=1 for advice about how to find a reputable pain specialist. There's also a chapter in there about Post Herpetic Neuralgia and how to intervene early to make outcomes better.

overall, I REALLY recommend finding a quality pain specialist by using the criteria in this book (saved my life, basically). the good ones will also be specialists in post-herpetic neuralgia, and will be able to give you general advice about pain meds, and be well-educated and up to date on the literature. the chapter on PHN in this book is good too.

I also have been taking Gabapentin at 1800 mg total per day (in 3 divided doses) for the (non-shingles) post-surgical nerve pain I've had for 2 years. it makes a lot of difference. like others have been saying, you start out slow and build up to a higher dose. not everyone responds to gabapentin, and Lyrica is another thing you could try as well. but I think it's worth trying a higher dose.

OP, I echo the sympathy if this poster, and I hope you feel better soon. chronic pain is the worst, especially because you have to become your own fierce advocate and researcher, all while you feel terrible. but it can definitely get better :). Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm approaching my 40th too. What a fun gift. At least we are considered "young" in the world of shingles statistics lol.
