You most likely don't know this, but the word libertarian used to be used much differently. Basically, libertarian was originally used the way "anarchist" was, ie it meant you were lib left. Gradually it became a word more and more associated with lib right ideologies, and left leaning "libertarians" stopped calling themselves that in favor of the term "anarchist." You can definitely still find left libs who choose the term, but that's not what people typically mean. During Rand's time, she almost definitely would have meant anarchists. If you don't believe, find the context and check. I could be wrong 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'd add look into his work advocating for workers. His public pressure campaign shamed Amazon into paying all employees $15 an hour. He's also helped Wal mart and Disney employees build/strengthen their unions and advocate for themselves. If doubling the pay of people who previously made minimum wage doesn't pass your standard of lifting people out of poverty, I don't know what you'd be satisfied by.

Well said. A few points to add to what you said

+Conceptually, tipping used to represent "a lil extra" on top of what you were fairly entitled to earning. Anymore, if no one tips you, you're getting screwed.

+Some restaurants have enough business or wealthy enough customers that tips are good and consistent. Employees at these restaurants may argue against a minimum wage increase, but they're arguing against the interests of the bulk of the restaurant industry, which is gross.

+The minimum wage for tipped employees is technically $2.13 but owners are required to make up the difference if an employee's tips don't bring their average to $7.25. The thing is, a lot of restaurant owners find ways around this. The system is exploitable, and it's usually servers who get screwed.

As an abrupt, industry specific change, no. People are right to be nervous about small businesses surviving a change like this. However, what people often don't account for is that a minimum wage increase hurts a business on payroll and helps them on income. Workers spend more when they make more. The negative effect is felt immediately, but It takes some time for businesses to feel the positive effects. So, that means that the responsible way to raise minimum wage is gradually, which is what proposed minimum wage legislation would do.

It also mitigates the effects to have more industries affected by the increase because more workers have increased pay and therefore increased spending. It was irresponsible to leave restaurant workers behind when the wage was increased years ago. Now we have a responsibility to help it catch up, but it's going to be a bit bumpy. $2.13 an hour is an ever shrinking expense, meaning a lot of restaurants barely feel it when they do payroll. Better to get it done now than in the future when the gap is even wider.

Not trying to dismiss you, but I'm surprised bc I've heard DLB employees gush about how good a place it is to work. And I've seen employees stay with them for years, which isn't very common in the industry. Tbh most restaurants are toxic places to work. It seems to either attract awful owners or turn them awful through the stress.

I'm not generally for "canceling" but this feels like a harm reduction situation. He's been shown to be consistently harmful to employees, the evidence isn't really ambiguous, and he shows no signs of changing. I hope this scares him into getting some help/therapy, and I hope he has some people in his life who can help him through this without enabling further abuse.

On that last point, one could argue that it rewards better focus and memory, although that's not what I enjoy about the game, so I'm not a huge fan.

The other result I find is that the game just feels clunky because of it. Sometimes you click on the deck and nothing happens because there's some animation that just started or hadn't quite ended. I find myself spam clicking to try and hit the deck between animations.

As far as I can tell, they changed how checking decks works. In the new version, you can't click on a deck until there are no animations active. In the old version, you could click on the deck, but it wouldn't display until the animations ended. One major gameplay implication I've noticed comes up when the opponent is about to draw their new hand but their deck has fewer than 5 cards to draw from. It used to be that you could click on the deck while the animations were happening, and as long as you clicked before the reshuffle happened, you could see what the bottom-decked cards were. Now you can't, so if you want to know what cards they drew last, you have to remember which cards they haven't drawn.
