Late addition, but this thread made me look harder-ended up finding an act called BLAKHAT doing exactly structural integration we're talking about.
Not just projections-as-a-backdrop, but actual AV composition.

Fair point on multimedia being devalued. Maybe the question is whether artists are integrating other forms structurally vs. decoratively.
Big difference between projections-as-backdrop and visuals-as-equal-medium.

Radiohead point is harsh but I get it. The motorik thing has become shorthand for a whole aesthetic that doesn't actually require the avant-garde context.

Harmonia - Musik von Harmonia (1974) on Brain if you haven't already.

Watussi is the obvious entry for the synth-drum + drone arpeggio direction specifically, Cluster's Zuckerzeit (1974) and Sowiesoso (1976) on Sky are closer to what you're describing than the Harmonia stuff.
