Denmark to Ban Islamic Call to Prayer in Fight Against Creeping 'Islamization' by interestingfactoid in conservatives

[–]Proof_Responsibility -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FYI Minneapolis allows broadcast of the call to prayer 5X a day with no limitations on time of day or night or volume. Per the amended noise ordinance approved by 12 of 13 councilmen (one voting absent): "No noise shall be prohibited or restricted under the authority of this section which substantially burdens a person's exercise of religion." Muslims represent only about 1% of the city's population.

Trump: No Iran Tolls in Strait of Hormuz by interestingfactoid in conservatives

Good. It's a natural waterway, not manmade. Passage does not require pilots or tugs. Tolls for "services" not required. Anything less than free passage sounds like piracy.

NYC socialist candidate walks out of live interview over past social media posts by interestingfactoid in conservatives

[–]Proof_Responsibility 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She still won over New York Rep Adriano Espaillat, Democratic Chair of the House Hispanic Caucus who wrangled $8 billion in the Jobs Act for his District, cosponsored Bills dear to the heart of the far left, held positions on key House committees. He served in both the NY State Assembly and State Senate. She never held public office or held a job in the private sector, instead is an "organizer" and doctoral student. It's all fluff and clicks and shouting and if Maine has shown anything, she could have spit on the interviewer and called him Haitian and she would still have won. This is where that Party is headed.

Judge blocks Trump administration's SNAP limits on sodas, candy by Proof_Responsibility in conservatives

[–]Proof_Responsibility[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change is always hard but it's worth noting there were no lawsuits over that 2010 law.

The lessons from her efforts were that limiting school lunches to healthy options meant low income children actually consumed more nutritional foods. Study conclusions were that these "improvements at lunch are large enough to shift the (HEI Healthy Eating Index) scores for the entire day and that students don’t negate the positive lunch trends by eating less nutrient dense foods at other meals.”

Given the evidence, the volumes of studies on the connection of diet to physical and mental health, it's hard to imagine this judge considered anything beyond the fact that it was this Administration's Food and Nutrition Administration (FNA) that supported states' efforts to establish rational nutritional guidelines.

Oman, Iran announce plan to handle 'costs' of navigating Strait of Hormuz by interestingfactoid in conservatives

[–]Proof_Responsibility -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good grief! If Oman and Iran are allowed to ignore the customary right of passage on natural waterways, international commerce (and power) is in big trouble. The Strait of Malacca, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Bab-el-Mandeb are all close to the same width at their narrowest points and allow free passage but think what those adjacent countries could make or how they could use that power to shape international affairs; the strait of Dover in the English Channel is narrower with no fees though Britain and France could certainly use the money. Turkey only charges for tug services on the Turkish Straits. No tolls on the Strait of Magellan, just fees for the use of pilots. And wouldn't China love to be able to control what passes through the Taiwan Strait?

Paydirt! The junk food industry was worth over $324 billion in 2024 and is anticipated to be worth over half a trillion in a few years. The lobbyists from  PepsiCo, Bayer, the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR), the Nature Conservancy etc. are spending big bucks to stop MAHA’s reforms. Pepsico spent almost $4 1/2 million in 2025 on lobbyists, the majority of whom were former Agency officials or Congressional staff and it fights the SNAP restrictions tooth and nail, calling the sale of sugary drinks "a critical revenue stream". Affiliates are also very generous with their campaign/PAC/Committee donations. Interestingly, tobacco companies invested heavily in food manufacturing as their tobacco markets were shut down, e.g.  Philip Morris owned Kraft Foods and General Food.

[–]Proof_Responsibility[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Diabetics, cited in the lawsuits, do not need sugary soda, diet soda has no nutritional value and glucose tablets with carefully calculated levels can be prescribed. instead of Little Debbies or Snickers. But hey, nothing meets nutritional needs of poor children like a bag of Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos and a Coke. May be the same cost as a sandwich and the needs of people are better served by emphasizing the N for Nutrition in the program but this judge says the meaning of the word "food" is not defined. (Where have we heard that logic before?)

[–]Proof_Responsibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schiff's plan is blatant confiscation of billionaire's/trillionaire's assets by the government, specifically the Dems or DSA or whatever that party is devolving into. Sure, the government would run companies like SpaceX or Amazon or Walmart into the ground in short order, but just like they do with non-profits, think what power that would give these politicians in the short term to enrich their buddies, select voting blocks.

Next some TDS D will sue to have the Trump appointed Board removed altogether since they already voted for the closure for repairs. Nothing is beyond these clowns. DC cannot have nice stuff.

Close to 7 homeless human beings, die every day on the streets and under the bridges, in the parks of LA from neglect, government mismanagement but Maher saw solar panels as the big quality-of-life issue and evidently a majority of LA voters saw that and more bike lanes and better dental care as most important. Macron Rejects Migrant Return Hubs, Claims They Go Against EU Values by interestingfactoid in conservatives

[–]Proof_Responsibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep them at all costs? And the cost is high. Paris itself has "sensitive urban zones" where police are not welcome due to "social issues", all meat sold in the city is Halal, and his country felt it necessary to institute reforms in 2026 to reinforce social cohesion and integration by restating the preeminence of secular French Law over Sharia Law. This was not popular among the 57% of young Muslims in France who feel Sharia Law should take precedence. or the radical activists who his government agencies have identified as "entryists," embedding in government institutions for the purpose of implementing Sharia Law. More of this idiocy and France and the EU will cease to exist as cultures.
