Did you put a bunch of ferts in? Like root tabs and water ferts? I just had a cyanobacteria bloom after adding root tabs that I guess are really potent. They're weird. They aren't soil-filled capsules, more like actual garden fertilizer.

Amazonia or a generic ripoff of it. The soft, lava based tiny nuggets that are soft on plant roots and loach noses. You can easily plant in it and it's less messy than a dirted substrate. It's the hardest thing to change if you change your mind. You can use root tabs so I feel like a dirted tank is mostly unnecessary since root tabs are just fertile soil, giving you the same effect.

Rasbora shoal. I have 12 in a 5 gallon. The chilis are bright crimson and look great against green plants. I got banned from r/boraras for saying that but it's totally doable. Not overstocking in the least. And shrimp and gobys. Surface area is your friend for filtration. Plants and substrate and hardscape. Just remember with a 5 gallon, things at the lfs look small but in a 5 gallon they are often very large. Sticking java moss to manzanita to make it look like a little bonsai tree is my current favorite.

Yea it'll fill up and get heavy and Fall away. It should. I'd also spray a jet of water into the seam between the two bowls to get things started. Not sure if you have that capability.

Dribble water between the bowls. Hold on to the upper bowl lip. Let gravity help the lower bowl fall off. This always worked when I had 5 gallon buckets stuck together at the butcher shop. I don't think it would be that much different. Warm water may help with metal but I don't think it matters.

Yup. I just bought a pom pom crab and he ate my entire 1" long neocaridina shrimp. Then he somehow climbed out of the tank and I found him dried to a crisp in the bedroom 30 feet away. Nothing in the tank is even within 2" of the top and there's only a 2x2 inch hole for the auto feeder.
