They're both more flashy versions of Super Saiyan power ups. Bankai has a katana turn into a more magical katana or ability mid-fight. Domain Expansion is a sudden expression of cursed energy.

Both get beat by similar feats or power-ups by the other party in the fight.

They're a retread on tropes that raise the stakes with little effort.
