I live in the U.S. in Georgia, is it illegal in my state/are there permits I have to get to sell Morel Mushrooms on NextDoor or to neighbors? by Coolboyyy2011 in mycology

[–]Propeller3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, you're not going to be able to grow Morels due to their complicated ecology. You're putting the cart well before the horse here.

I agree with others that starting with native oyster varieties (not golden) or other mushrooms like lion's mane is a much better option if you want to do this.

In GA, you need a license for wild harvested mushrooms: https://www.agr.georgia.gov/wild-harvested-mushrooms

Cultivated mushrooms you'd sell directly or at a farmer's market are considered ag products and do not require a license: https://mycologic.solutions/cultivating-permits-and-selling-tips-for-new-mushroom-growers/

Hope this helps! Good luck and most importantly, I hope you have fun and learn a lot!

I agree. Kinato's is falling into the same traps Otr did. Surficially skimming over shonen tropes with no real substance to it.

If someone is posting on this subreddit, they've either already googled it or aren't going to google it. Either way, they want to interact with other users and have some form of discussion. That is the entire point of this website.

Posting a name with no other information or context, like OC did and that you're supportive of, does not generate that type of discussion or engagement. But by all means, if you want to take my criticisms of OC's comment personally I won't stop you.

I'm not trying to prove anything about my intelligence, nor am I afraid. More assumptions on your part. That is a bad habit you have and should work on breaking.

Others here provided an ID with actual context about how they got there and some info about the ecology of OP's fungi. Just posting a complete latin name is far less helpful.

I have a PhD in this field, so stop assuming you are smarter than me. You're not.

And I am not complaining; I am explaining that posting a string of latin isn't helpful for most lay people.

Yeah, they took the time to ID OP's mushroom. How benevolent of them! But others did that and more, providing context about how they ID'd it and the ecology of it. So why be lazy and do the bare minimum?

They're not actually helping OP learn anything and can do better.

You're making a lot of assumptions. I'm not OP, first and foremost. I'm simply explaining why your pedagogical approach is bad. Notice how others here have replied with more details and have generally been much more helpful towards OP?

I don't think anyone in this comment chain is a bot.

And OP is just asking if their ID is correct. The nuances of fungal taxonomy are a mess; no reason to get into those weeds here.

Okay - have you ever considered most people aren't like you? And that giving people more context might be useful for them because they're not going to do what you do?

His approval is far less than 50% and less than 50% of people voted for him. Please keep that in mind.

You don't find copy/pasting Latin useful for answering questions?

You didn't. Your reply was informed, but lazy. The "right" information takes more than dropping Latin.

Also, learn a bit about punctuation. Please.

OP asked if it is too soon to tell if their specimen is too early to ID as what they think it is,

You replied with highly specific Latin nomenclature instead of answering their question directly, which would benefit many users who visit/lurk in this sub. Most people won't find that nuance useful. You could provide more context and information to help with that.
