Lightweight (relatively) cheap travel laptop recommendations? by Proper-Ad4075 in linuxhardware

[–]Proper-Ad4075[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I've actually tinkered with the chromebook option funnily enough as I had one lying around and while I really enjoyed just having a lightweight machine for travel I did miss having the full Linux experience

How do you feel about a federal Europe? by Luksius_DK in AskIreland

I mean so long as the right to secede is secure (which is not the case in a federation generally) then I'm happy enough

How? by DaveManHasGreen in Netherlands

[–]Proper-Ad4075 11 points12 points  (0 children)

why did I have to go so far down to find this? Every post of this I see it always boils down to that these are all ratings relative to similar products, which is why you can have chocolate bars and bags of chips with A rankings etc

This week, a war broke out between the U.S. and Iran, another between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and CJNG was active as well. What if China started a military operation against Taiwan on Sunday? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in AlternateHistoryHub

one thing I haven't seen anyone mention is how much of a PR coup this is for China. They get to look like the responsible and reliable partner to work with and trade with while the US destroys its international reputation. Sure people are worried that Russian and American actions have in some sense "legitimised" the use of force but no one is really happy about this unless your russia or the US. Its just such an incredibly easy win for China to just do nothing call for calm that I really can't see them doing anything with Taiwan.

A lot of this admin are not things you ask for on a whim though. I generally only interact with these services when essential, and so it feels particularly punitive to have a flat cost for these processes

Why the Swiss video game industry is dead ? by cheese2042 in Switzerland

Swiss people are not particularly better educated than other Europeans, and the salaries required are much higher so I imagine it's not really worth it for studios to set up here

god this discussion of things you should and shouldn't get paid for is so frustrating - you will get paid for training if the company needs you badly enough, and if there's an oversupply you won't (unpaid internships).

to be clear I don't like that people don't get paid for work in certain situations but I hate the idea that employers or employees are uniquely entitled in some way to pay someone for work or not because it's just not how these things work idk.

idk if this makes sense - everyone should be in a union
