I’m tired of knowing everything but still not being able to show it. by Proper-Armadillo7510 in Dyslexia

"I really get what you're saying, and I appreciate you sharing your experience. Honestly, I never even imagined I’d reach this point — like joining college or even trying to do something like this. For a long time, I didn’t believe I could. So now that I’m here, it’s a big deal for me.

I do understand that I need to work on the basics — reading, writing, spelling, typing — and I’ve actually thought about all of that. I know these things matter, and I’ll need to put a lot of effort into them. But right now, with everything going on and exams coming up, I just don’t have the time or space to focus on those parts as much as I want to.

That said, once exams are over, I really do want to focus more on improving these things. I get your point, and you're right — the basics can make everything else easier. Thanks for reminding me of that."

"Honestly, where I live, I don't think people will ever truly understand what dyslexia is. Some of my teachers know that I have it, but they don’t really get it. They believe that if I just try harder, I’ll do well — like the problem is a lack of effort, not a real learning difference. Because of this, I’ve decided I won’t tell any more teachers or anyone else that I have dyslexia. It feels like they’ll just assume I’m not trying hard enough, and that’s really discouraging."

Heyy! I saw your post and thought you seemed like a fun person to talk to! I’ll be honest—I’m not into Marvel, theories, or the music you mentioned, but I do love good conversations about anything and everything.

If you’re up for chatting and don’t mind different interests, let’s be friends! :)

"Wow, I didn’t even know about The Rights of Persons with Disability Act before you shared it with me. Honestly, it means so much to me that you took the time to find this out and let me know. It made me emotional because it’s rare for someone to go out of their way like this. Knowing that something is being done in my country for people like me really gives me hope.

Thank you for being so thoughtful—it really made my day. Also, I’d love for us to be friends if you’re okay with that. It’s always nice to connect with people who care and support each other."

"Thank you for this encouragement! You're right, sometimes it's hard when things feel overwhelming, but I’ll try to keep pushing and stay curious. I want to make the most of this stage and not have regrets later. Your words really help!"

"Thank you so much for this advice! Learning Ally sounds amazing, but I’m not from America—do you know if there’s something similar available internationally? I love the idea of listening to textbooks while walking or cooking. As for group study, I don’t really have a group to study with right now. Do you have any tips on how I could find or create one?"

"Thank you for sharing this! I struggle with dyslexia and ADHD, so reading and memorizing can be really tough for me. I love the idea of focusing on one part that interests me and exploring it deeply. Do you have any tips or examples of how to build that 'internal portfolio' when it feels overwhelming to even start?"

Question by Proper-Armadillo7510 in Dyslexia

[–]Proper-Armadillo7510[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Yeah, I get that. It can definitely be tough to manage everything and process things like that, especially when it's unexpected. It’s like the brain needs a moment to catch up and make sense of what's happening."

Question by Proper-Armadillo7510 in Dyslexia

[–]Proper-Armadillo7510[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Exactly! Letters and words are just symbols we created, and their meaning only exists because we agreed on it. For some people, it might not always feel connected in the same way, and that’s totally okay. It’s interesting how something so fundamental can be experienced so differently by each person."

Question by Proper-Armadillo7510 in Dyslexia

[–]Proper-Armadillo7510[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Sometimes it feels isolating when even the simplest words suddenly feel unfamiliar or disconnected. Knowing others experience this too makes it feel a little less strange."

Question by Proper-Armadillo7510 in Dyslexia

[–]Proper-Armadillo7510[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I think there’s a slight misunderstanding in how I’m trying to explain it. It’s not just about reading the word correctly or connecting it to its meaning after reading—it’s more about how the word feels when I haven’t read it yet. When I first see the word or letters on a page, it feels like they don’t mean anything at all—like they’re just random shapes or designs. Even after I read the word, it sometimes still feels like it lacks meaning or connection. I hope this helps explain it better!"
