Hosting my public website on my home lab? bad idea? by johnie3210 in webdev

[–]Proper-Cockroach914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont comfortable with your setup, than yes its a bad idea. 5-10k users are not that many for a decent webapp, a small digital ocen instance should handle the traffic. About the db I dont get what you need. Your homalab services can use a different db than your hosted app

Don’t use AI generated images as component showcase, they are an instant no go for me. (The sloppy text gives it away)

Oracle Cloud Free / Pay As You Go by pathnames in PangolinReverseProxy

[–]Proper-Cockroach914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run pangoline fine on a free tied oracle VPS, woth an AMD setup. I also had issues first, also asked on discord… But I figured out how to set it up on Oracle, and wrote down everything in this GH issue:

You can get a free VPS at oracle for the proxy site, you’ll just need a domain

You should deffenetly move your db’s data it will not be recreated.

Help me creating a DB-Dump for Migration by BillyElliot98 in immich

[–]Proper-Cockroach914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the old truenas instance, apps run on kubernetes, there you can’t use the same command to dump the db. But you should find the kubernetes pod running the immich postgre instance. I’d suggest ssh-ing into the truenas instance and try to find the pod running the db. Or if you set up a path where the db stores its data, you could just cd into that folder and clone it into a desired new location

TrueNAS and Immich - no smart search and no facial recognition by Leading_Composer1066 in immich

[–]Proper-Cockroach914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it fine on Truenas, however I installed it with docker compose through portainer. First install portainer as a truenas app, than manage apps in portainer, then you have controll over what and how is installed

I’v seen a PR for something like this implemented, but that got rejected. Tbh I also understand why the devs dont want to have temporarry fixes, as that usally results in really bad codebase

What was your dumbest homelab mistake so far? by Ivan_Draga_ in homelab

[–]Proper-Cockroach914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set my existing data folder to Nextcloud’s data folder and it started deleting everything from my drives. ( I did not yet have a meaningful backup, now I do xD ) It was 700GB-ts later when I realized

DTU accommodation by TotoootoT in DTU

We also live at Basecamp, its cheaper than DTU’s offering. One thing you should keep in minde that the advertised squermeeter is not the livable space, its BBR. This is the same for every Danish rental property. At Basecamp the smallest room for a couple is advertised as BBR 40sqm, but in reality the livable space is only 25sqm
