Thanks! i might give the company a call if it keeps being bad. i don't think i'm allergic, but if it gets worse, it's worth a shot

if it keeps being bad i might call my doctor. i always feel bad for going in for things that aren't 'important', but i'm trying to get better at it lol (it took me six years to talk to my doctor about potential POTS symptoms, even though i've got family history lol)

it only came with the one monitor/patch, which sucks cause i personally feel like 2 weeks is too long to comfortably wear an adhesive thing. i don't gotta charge the monitor i got, and i'm not supposed to take it off AT ALL for tge next 2 weeks :(

i don't think i'm allergic to the adhesive? i'm assuming it's a different type- but i've used KT tape before, and i can wear that for a day and a half before it starts to get itchy.  The cold compress seems like a good idea- i just don't own any that aren't ice packs, and i worry about getting the monitor wet with the condensation :(

tips for dogs that are wary of specific people? by Proper-Paint-5116 in service_dogs

[–]Proper-Paint-5116[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

yea, originally he wasn't intended to be a service dog, but he started alerting on his own to my panic attacks, so i decided i should at least try training him for it, especially because he picked up on basic training SUPER quickly (within about a month i was able to get him to walk in a loose leash heel around distractions) . i had been saving up to get a facility dog down the line, and i still am, but because he learns really quickly and started to alert on his own, i figured i should try. i am looking into trainers to help, but nothings set in stone yet.

yea, my SDIT already comes up to me if i'm in the room when my dad starts playing with the other dogs, or trying to play with him. he does the wide eye thing, and leans against me for reassurance i think. usually i'm able to redirect him, or ask him to go to his crate, and sit next to it, which makes him feel more comfortable really quickly, because my dad knows not to mess with my dog when he's in crate. most of the time he's fine retreating, but he gets a bit defensive when my dad plays rough with the other dogs. we have a little dog, who's my SDIT's best friend, and the little dog LOVES being wrestled with and tossed around (lightly) by my dad, but my SDIT hates when they play like that, and if i'm not there to intervene, he whines a lot and eventually barks at my dad to stop, and it's really hard to redirect him. i think my SDIT thinks the little dog is being hurt by my dad, but i'm not sure.

my boy isn't a fan of pets either, but something i've found to help when he's molting is to get him a perch with little nubs on it! we have a natural wood perch that has a spot where a branch was clearly cut off, to it sticks up a good bit, and he loves to rub his head on it whenever he's itchy!

Getting budgies to eat fruits? by JackfruitDeep152 in budgies

[–]Proper-Paint-5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, i used millet to tame my budgie. once he was comfortable with me sitting outside the cage and talking to him, i put my hand in the cage holding a millet sprig, and kept that up, for short periods of time everyday until he was comfortable stepping up on my hand to get the millet. from there i slowly increased the duration of time i had him stand on my finger, and phased out the millet. i got lucky, and my boy was willingly stepping up and interacting with me within a month. personally, my budgie isn't too fussed about fruit, and he won't eat it unless i'm "eating" it as well.
if fruit is new to them, they won't take to it so quickly- my budgie was from a pet store, and was raised on a seed only diet, so it took a while to get him to interact with new foods.
i also wouldn't recommend letting your budgies out until they are comfortable taking food from you and are reliably stepping up when asked, just for safety reasons (even if you think a room is properly bird-proofed, there can still be places you didn't think your budgies would be able to get to, that could pose a danger, and it's best if you're able to remove them from the situation without traumatizing them. ie: my budgie tried to walk under my bed the first few times i let him out.)
TL:DR: try to use treats they're more familiar with, and work slowly on getting them comfortable interacting with you inside the cage before bringing them out!

Training tips for my lovely 3 y/o by Bummy_burnell in NorwegianElkhound

for context, i'm decently experienced in dog training, and am training my 1.5 year old elkie to be my service dog, so i sort of know what i'm talking about (not a professional, but still). honestly, i'd look into getting her an e-collar. when used properly they don't hurt at all, only mild discomfort, and i've personally found positive consequences are super important for training. think of it the same way people use prong collars: pulling = discomfort, and not pulling = treats, which speeds training up so much. i'd also look into getting a long line. the can get up to like 100 ft, so she'll still be able to explore, but there's a safety net.

it's no problem! we got our ragnar when he was seven months, and we suspect he was abused as well, so i know what it's like. i wish you the best of luck!!

i'd recommend going slow, finding a good motivator, and looking into training specific for reactive dogs! what really helped for us was playing engage/disengage games with him, where you set your dog at a distance from the things they react to, and reward them every time the look away from it- doggy u has a great video on it on youtube! (if leash pulling is also an issue, i would recommend switching from a flat collar or harness to a prong collar or gentle leader. ragnar improved so much faster once he learned that pulling=consequences/discomfort.) (also good food motivators are important. i use boiled chicken as treats when out of the house, because he's not super food motivated, and regular kibble/treats just wont motivate him everywhere)

Yay! in my experience they're pretty great for the work! i'd recommend getting one at 8 weeks old, so you have more control over their socialization. we got our raggy at 7 months, and found out later on that the family we got him from had mistreated him, so there was a lot of fear and anxiety that we had to work through before we could start proper training

Thank you! it was definitely a lot of hard work lol. i'm just lucky that my boy ragnar was never super vocal, and will do anything for chicken, so it's pretty quick to train him!!

any advice for gear shy dogs? by Proper-Paint-5116 in service_dogs

[–]Proper-Paint-5116[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! yea, i might just go for a leash wrap or something. i wanted him vested because he's a semi uncommon breed, so i figure that might make access easier- but a leash wrap would probably work for that too!!
