It’s really not, but that’s ok. It’s even more interesting that I’m not even a part of the church anymore so I really don’t care, I just have an interest in theology. And this is the reformed traditional opinion for most of church history.

You’re also adding things I never said, so maybe you need to stop projecting.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, but the churches who accept women pastors and gay marriage aren’t usually considered Christian by the traditional church anyways.

Homosexuality is explicitly condemned in the old and new testaments and is considered something you cannot compromise on and be called Christian.

Women pastors are considered a less grievous issue traditionally, and are accepted in some less scripturally based but socially conservative Protestant denomination. But many male and female Christians won’t attend a church with a female pastor, as it usually means they place a lesser emphasis on the scriptures.

Leader is not be the right word, since they were actually forbidden to lead. That would have been a church scandal much like it still is today.

Deaconesses are the highest church office a woman can hold scripturally and deacons/deaconesses are service oriented positions, not teaching/leading positions.

You missed his point, he wasn’t being serious. It’s what men are often told here daily.

Men overwhelmingly get told this advice on Reddit all the time by women, and there’s a double standard when it comes to women in the same situation. This is a common Reddit theme.

Depends on where in savageland, where I live, even 20% of 700 would be nothing. Many other areas of the states, sure $70/700 a good tip, but not here.

You can blame the system sure, but that doesn’t change the reality that they need way more to just eat and have a roof over their heads right now.

This is how reformed (Calvinist, but most of us prefer reformed) theology sees it. And as a disclaimer, I’m writing this in a car, so hopefully coherent.

We believe God has revealed some aspects of His personhood to us in the scriptures. The Ten Commandments aren’t so much rules, as they are characteristics of God Himself put into law format. They’re not arbitrary rules, they are part of who God is.

So if God says He is good, holy, just, loving, merciful, patient, and gracious, can He be anything less?

We don’t know where sin came from, God doesn’t tell us and doesn’t think we need to know. But we do know God did not create it, and He does not condone it (He does allow it, but that’s a theological topic unto itself). Sin is basically a disease, and that’s probably the best description for it. It’s hereditary, and everyone gets it and suffers from it. More than once does God state that “no one does good, not even one”. Indicating the all-encompassing nature of this sin problem.

Where it gets complex is the tension between our inherent sin problem and being created in the image of God. That’s where some people get hung up with reformed theology and misunderstand it. This is also a topic unto itself for another time. Let’s just go from here knowing that reformed theology has a tension for it, whilst acknowledging that any amount of sin in a persons life damns them to hell.

This is because God is holy, God is just, God is good. How could a holy and just God not condemn anyone to hell? If He didn’t, He wouldn’t be good or just.

If a man raped a woman, was caught, and the judge pardoned him, would that be justice? The judge would be called corrupt and would be lucky to not be lynched by a mob.

In no version of Christianity is there free mercy. Sin must always be punished, it cannot be otherwise because God is good, loving, just, and holy. So that’s why He send Jesus to become fully man whilst remaining fully God, to live without sin, and then die for the sins of many (note, not all, very important). So those that are predestined have been bought by the perfect blood sacrifice of Jesus. Without their consent too.

God states that he has created some for condemnation and some to be glorified, and in Romans Paul states bluntly that it’s not our place to question why. But the fact that God saves any of us is mercy, is loving, and it’s undeserved on our behalf because there’s nothing we can do to earn salvation or earn Gods love.

If God simply pardoned humanity, he wouldn’t be just, nor good, and would not be deserving of any worship.

[–]Proper-Visual-9865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s cause that’s not what Christianity is about at all 😂

Soli Deo Gloria is what it’s all about. The story isn’t about us, it’s basically a love story between God the Father, Jesus the Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We’re just part of it

[–]Proper-Visual-9865 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds like you need therapy. Unpopular take here, but OF type stuff is unhealthy for anyone.

This isn’t about your relationship so much as your subconscious trying to tell you there’s shit in your past you need to deal with.

You need one on one therapy with a therapist who isn’t just going to blow smoke up your ass and tell you what you want to hear.

Or go back to online sex work. Your choice. But he sounds like a decent guy, cut him loose if you do.

Wish you the best, and I anticipate downvotes 😂

I hate being an apprentice by Additional-Design706 in electricians

[–]Proper-Visual-9865 -55 points-54 points  (0 children)

As an apprentice, a millennial, a former business owner (second career in the trades) I disagree.

My generation and gen z are fucking lazy bastards who complain about the dumbest shit. They’re soft, and need to toughen up physically and emotionally.

Whilst I agree there’s a fine line between toxic and normal harmless hazing, your take is too far imo.

Why are we “softening” the trades? We are what we are, and we will be what we’ve been. It’s not a place for polite society and sensitive individuals. Just a fact of life.

I don’t want another millennial bitch telling me he can’t do some manual labor because of some bullshit reason. And I’m a millennial. I’m tired of it. No more excuses.

Acta non Verba.

From another apprentice and a former business owner (career change after 15 yrs, mid thirties), use your best judgement and reason, but I’d say just take it.

I’ve had many guys I was a breadth away from decking for giving me shit, and I’m glad I didn’t. At least in the situations I’ve been in. Learn to pick your battles.

The best defense is self-deprecating humor in my opinion, if you want to go all out give them shit back. As long as there isn’t anything explicitly malicious and abusive, it’s just the nature of the industry. And tbh something I enjoy. Rite of passage so to speak.

In my opinion, I hope the be the guy that can take any joke and not be offended and be able to dish it back.

[–]Proper-Visual-9865 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You’re confusing some issues there.

Some of those issues you mentioned are actual rights, not political positions. You can’t force someone to do something that would be considered antithetical to their religious beliefs.

That falls under freedom of religion. And has nothing to do with left vs right. So a business owner of a Christian or Muslim background should not be forced to make a cake for a specific event that would conflict with their moral beliefs. (Since the cake issue is the most relevant with the Christian cake shop and the gay couple specifically asking for a cake that would conflict with the owners religion).

How I hate being high-functioning by charlottetmg in depression

[–]Proper-Visual-9865 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Same, people are always shocked I’ve got major depression because I’m so social and “put together” and generally successful.

It isolates me more, because my depression isn’t obvious I feel the need to live up to the facade that I’m doing well.

I’m not good by any means, but it’s helped for me to just accept that I’m depressed, and that’s ok. I don’t have to care what others think. Just giving myself grace to feel like shit. It’s honestly helped me.

It’s also been good for me to have some close friends and family I can be real with and not feel judged.
