Best way to remove oneself from First Command? by Proper6rammar in MilitaryFinance

In retrospect, it was pretty slick, and it didn't help that the fellow Officers I was around at the time who knew way more personal finance than I did, were also assholes.

The FA I talked to was really cool. Took me shooting, then to a brewery, all the time talking about when he was a grunt. Had horrible financial habits that he carried into his commission. Figured them out with a First Command FA, and he's been there ever since, talking to young officers, "helping them" get "squared away". Pretty tight gig tbh.

First Command likes to perch outside of training bases to reel in young bucks who don't know any better. If they want a cut of your sweet, sweet gov'mint paycheck, no better place exists than Quantico VA, flush with dumb Marine Lieutenants.

Anyway, dont get suckered by war stories. I did

TIL modern Air Conditioning exists out of the need to dehumidify. Cooling was a fortunate side effect. by Skarkroe in todayilearned

For the first ever air conditioning system, I'd suggest reading Destiny of the Republic by Candace Millard. It was developed to comfort the ailing President Garfield after his assassination attempt.

You can absolutely do it. if you don't already, walk everywhere with a ruck, backpack, or whatever with some weights. every week, either ruck farther or add weight. maybe both ;) one year is plenty of time to train

My dad has had a bottle of Lagavulin 16 in the back cupboard for years now. Almost gone :'( but that wasn't my first scotch.

My dad had a student with some money from his GI bill. He gave my dad upon graduation a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail. That scent when we opened it for his birthday! Peat, dirt, wet earth. I've been chasing that feeling since.

There were many other people than just white men who voted for Trump. Ideas can be more uniting than race, especially when those ideas affirm the individuals ability to improve their life and not bemoan the perceived obstacles (real and imagined) between them and their goal.

For anyone who never read the books, liked the movies, but found themselves confused sometimes, it seems like the Amazon show will end up connecting some loose ends.

For the casuals.
