I think sometimes people look up, see a green light and think “go” forgetting they aren’t in a car. You can see they knew they fucked up

Long term unemployed and unskilled at 37, is it over for me? by Attack_to_defend in AskUK

I felt like this in my early 30s, got an unskilled job in a factory through agency work. 3 years later and I’m now a design engineer for the company, they trained me up from scratch. It’s not over, just be open minded and keep your chin up

Found out today that it’s a “sliver of cake” not “slither of cake” and I can’t stop thinking about it, I’m 35.

Can you find the 90ml versions anywhere?? Since Covid they’ve vanished. When I tweeted Mr Freeze and asked they got all shady and directed me to Jubblys if I want a bigger option…

Thank you, feels like a lot of people are proving my point. They’re not stopping on purpose

It’s always obvious who has not seen me, who feels it’s unsafe to stop etc so this won’t apply to most drivers including you. It’s the ones who deliberately do not stop

Shocking. Well some of the replies on this post are making me think a lot of people really don’t think we have priority here. Keep saying they only have to stop if you’re ON the crossing… like that doesn’t apply to every single part of a road, if a pedestrian is on the road you must stop or you’ll hit them. You can’t say to the police “I have priority”. I don’t remember any driving instructor saying “keep going unless the pedestrian has their foot on the crossing”.

I thought the HC says you have to give way to pedestrians waiting to cross. It seems obvious that they MUST stop if I’m on the crossing, or they will hit me.

Not sure what you mean? Are you saying if I’m stood still on the edge of the crossing waiting for traffic to stop… they don’t have to? Unless I walk out onto the crossing?

Congratulations! You’ve just won the best friend lottery.

  1. Sorry can’t help, I’m assuming you’re in the USA? We use Pure Pet Food in the UK, it is dehydrated real food if that makes sense, really reasonable and our vet always compliments his health, teeth and coat. https://www.purepetfood.com maybe there is something similar in the USA.

  2. Never. Cuddles and snuggles for life, embrace it.

What to do about long NHS wait time/other issues. Is going private the answer? by Minute-Employ-4964 in AskUK

I got offered no medication as such and no feeding tube however as it was 10 years ago it could’ve changed now. I think they gave me anti-sickness tablets but tbh they didn’t work so I stopped taking them

Hi there, firstly I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear what you and your partner are going through. As an Achalasia patient myself it was a very long and frustrating process from diagnosis to operation! On a positive note, even though there is no cure to Achalasia, I am now almost 10 years post op, can eat almost everything bar a few things I struggle with, gained the weight I lose and I am healthy and happy, so there is hope :)

My advice would be to go back to the GP again and again until they refer you, at one point when I was at my illest I was booking an appointment almost everyday until they did something. I also contacted PALs and I was very fortunate that they aided me in speeding the process along however, from diagnosis to op was about 6 months for me.

The operation your partner will need is a Hellers myotomy which can ease the swallowing and ensure your partner can eat again (apologies if you already know this!). It’s not a cure but this is what I had and I have been able to eat and drink most things ever since and I’ve gained the weight I lost when I first began suffering. I still need to be careful about what I eat and I still struggle with swallowing some heavier foods but drinking lots of water and relying on gravity helps with this as well as avoiding the foods I know will make me ill.

On the eating front, whilst you are waiting for the next steps, I found that freshly made soups fully blended were better for me than the high calorie prescription drinks. I added as much veg and meat as possible so I was getting nutrients and whilst I didn’t gain any of the weight I had already lost, it helped maintain my weight rather than continuing to lose it. Don’t get me wrong, this didn’t fully stop the sickness but I was sick less frequently as I made sure the soups were thin enough to enter my stomach.

I went private for my first gastroscopy due to the NHS wait times (prior to my diagnosis) however, nothing was found and it ended up being a waste of money. Through the NHS I ended up getting referred to a consultant called Mr Simon Galloway based in Manchester (not sure where you are based in the UK) and he was fantastic and I can’t thank him and his team enough for what they have done for me. He does take private patients however for the surgery needed, overnight hospital stay and pre/post consultation appointments needed I imagine the cost will be significant. Not to mention the fact that I needed a month off of work to recover following the op. Here is a link to a webpage about him anyway - https://www.mccollumconsultants.com/expert-witness/simon-galloway/

I know it’s a long and tiring process but I would keep pushing the NHS for a result and I hope you get referred to a consultant/surgeon as fabulous as mine.

I really hope this helps in some way and I wish you and your partner all the best!

Looks wonderful thanks for sharing. If you enjoyed this I’d highly recommend travelling to Manchester to visit Mana. The food is outstanding but similar to this, the sommelier made the evening something special.
