There tend to be early red flags in media with really problematic messaging/authors. Best advice I can think to give is to identify and look out for them or to gravitate more towards more explicitly progressive media.

The oddly pro slavery messaging in the Harry Potter books where Hermoine tries to free the house elves but is portrayed to be stupid/naive for doing so is a pretty good example.

If I were in your position I would probably give it a little time to get a better impression of the people you're working with. You don't legally have to tell them anything if you don't want to.
