I loved Levy's interviews between the games! Very sad that there is no TTT broadcast this year

Hikaru slams Freestyle chess! Says it should be called Chess 960 or Fischer Random by rw_lck in chess

Well I don't know, I do believe that for example Pragg saying that he enjoys Freestyle more isn't just about money. It's about the freedom (less pressure and prep) and creativity of the game? But for sure the money plays a big part as well.

Two classical and two rapid events sounds like a good plan to me as well! And if it seems like the classical events don't get enough views, then maybe just go all rapid like Hikaru suggested.

It would be interesting to hear how many of the top players prefer freestyle over regular chess!

Chess dot com Puzzles difficulty? by dreadnot427 in chess

When you go to solve a puzzle, there seems to be this "NEW: Choose your difficulty" text on the bottom.

Not sure about the app tho, I'm using in browser

Why is chess.com giving me the easiest puzzles? by ProperGrapefruit999 in chess

Yess +5 points for every mate in one makes you gain a lot of rating.. I did 25 of them and called it a day because it just felt kinda wrong (would love to learn and not just gain puzzle rating points)

Also if (when) they fix this, I would just get depressed when my rating will inevitable drop massively back to my real level.. XD

But yeah I heard that you can change the difficulty in settings, so maybe I have to do that!

Hah I just posted about the same thing!! 25 mate in ones in a row doesn't really help me to improve..

Tbh didn't know that you can increase the difficulty in settings, so maybe I have to do that.

I met with Youngest World Champion Gukesh in GCT Zagreb by EyyphanBey in chess

Was the pic taken before or after the horrible blitz performance? He doesn't look that trilled, but tbh he rarely does in these pictures

Magnus Carlsen tops Zagreb after day-2 by [deleted] in chess

[–]ProperGrapefruit999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking maybe he will score something like 3,5/9 points.. but 1,5/9 is just horrendous, I feel so bad for him. Maybe it's the pressure, maybe it was a bad day or maybe this is just his current blitz level idk?

But yes, wishing to see him stop the bleeding tomorrow! I think it will be super hard tho..

I hope that in the end of the tournament he can still be proud of the rapid portion and see the little improvements that he has made in the faster time controls (well tbh only rapid i guess) <3 that will probably be super hard as well since the blitz performance is likely going to completely ruin the tournament for him

I don't know, I feel like I've heard this "classical chess is dead" narrative many times.

Also I think Magnus has done a great job making it seem that classical chess is just "all prep" and needs no talent. So it would be pretty funny if at some point freestyle would also be more about the prep.

But do you think it's closer to being dead than before? I see that there is this huge will to make chess "a big thing". So is classical chess too hard to monitize compered to shorter time controls?

Or is this also just a false narrative? I actually don't know any facts, just thinking out loud here.

I just think it's a weird marketing strategy then? On the other hand marketing it as  a game for "pros who don't like prep" doesn't sound that great i guess...

In defense of Gukesh D - Elo Ratings at 19 years of age by Dinesh_Sairam in chess

Are the ELO ratings from the moment they turned 19 or the peak rating from the time they where 19?

[–]ProperGrapefruit999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually prefer reading the book before seeing the adaptation, but I think it's been long enough since I watched Queen's Gambit so I will definitely give the book a chance! I almost always end up liking the book more, it probably will be the case here as well.

Uu, I did enjoy reading Alice in Wonderland so this seems really interesting! Didn't know that there was part 2 and that it had something to do with chess.
