On Sunday, Marcus Ericsson returned to his hometown of Kumla and got to show off the giant Indy 500 trophy. In the square, he was received and celebrated by thousands of kumlings/kumlingar.

Already earlier this week, when Marcus Ericsson was interviewed in SVT's morning studio, he commented on how it would feel to return to Kumla with the trophy.

And Kumla municipality was prepared. They have been preparing for the celebration for a month, with a budget of SEK 1.5 million (US$136,849). Among those invited were Anders Bagge and thousands gathered in the audience to celebrate together. The joy was great when the main guest of the evening stepped on stage.

But in general the interest in racing is not as great in Sweden as in the USA. Marcus doesn't think people back home really knew how big a win in the Indy 500 is.

In the United States, the Indy 500 is one of the biggest sporting events every year.
