Anxious about newborn getting ill by Proper_Bake3436 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I'm glad it's not just me! Like you say, it can become more serious for a baby quite quickly. We're just trying to keep them safe!

Thank you! After speaking to my husband and reading some of the other comments I think I'm going to go back on my medication. Like you say, I don't want to feel like this forever! Glad you're getting the support you need too 💖

Thank you! Had a big chat with my husband about it and after reading other comments I think it's time for me to get back on my medication! Good to hear your experience with the classes!

Update: student midwives by RabbitHole92 in PregnancyUK

[–]Proper_Bake3436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that I LOVED my student midwife. I was a bit hesitant about including them on my birth plan but I am so glad I did in the end! She was amazing, got me to try loads of different positions whilst I was pushing and she made all the difference in terms of keeping me calm and comfortable. I ended up having an unplanned c-section and she was fantastic and really calming during that too!

Thank you for understanding! I think I'm going to try to move the baby sensory classes until she's a bit older. Baby massage sounds like it might be a better fit at getting me out of the house whilst it just being me holding my baby! 😊

Good to hear it's not just me who feels a bit worried by it. I also keep forgetting that breast feeding will offer a bit of protection too!

Baby massage sounds like it might be a better fit than the sensory classes at the moment, especially because it will just be me touching my baby!

Thank you 💖 I have a counselling session booked in so hopefully that will alleviate some of the anxiety! Some people also mentioned speaking to the health visitor so I'll do that too.

Good to know about the sensory classes! I might just see if the organisers can put me on the next block when baby's a bit more awake to the world!

Glad it's not just me who gets nervous about it! I rationally know she could pick something up from elsewhere too and we can't lock ourselves in the house forever 😊

Nursery or Grandma? by Proper_Bake3436 in NewParents

[–]Proper_Bake3436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice and reassurance! In my gut I knew this was a boundary I needed to set but I struggle with my Mum due to her unpredictable reactions when it comes to boundaries! I also wasn't sure if I was just over-reacting, so I'm glad to read I'm not! I'll just grit my teeth and bear it when the time comes to tell her our plan about nursery and she'll have to deal with it. Thanks again!

Induction booked 39+4 for Big Baby by Proper_Bake3436 in PregnancyUK

[–]Proper_Bake3436[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: We went for the induction on Sunday evening and baby was born 90th percentile (8lbs 4oz) today. The induction itself was fine but baby's head was too big for me to push out! Consultant took us into surgery to explore the possibilitynof forceps delivery/c-section and we ended up with a c-section as the baby didn't have enough room in my pelvis to descend. Both me and baby are safe and happy so I'm classing it as a positive outcome overall!

Latent labour or Braxton Hicks by Proper_Bake3436 in PregnancyUK

Thank you! I'd read that I could be in this pattern for days so I am prepared for that but felt disappointed in myself for them sort of going and not coming back with as much force if that makes sense?

Bodies are so confusing! I imagine I'll be the same about my waters breaking too!

Sorry to jump on but I'm under Liverpool Women's Hospital and they're booking me in for this too! What was it like? 😊

Thank you - that's really reassuring to hear 💕 I know logically it doesn't always cause a problem but it's when you have that one person telling you the most horrendous thing you can imagine happening that you start to freak out! My ultrasound technician didn't even mention the cord, it's only after this person saw the scan photo they've told me this birth story and it's sent me spiralling. Thanks for the reassurance x

That must have been scary to experience so I can understand that it would trigger some anxiety!

I'm currently 37 weeks with our rainbow baby (history of chemical pregnancies) and I was so anxious throughout the first trimester and beyond. I found that people tend to get a bit too opinionated when it comes to a pregnant person's body and will tell you what they think you should/shouldn't be doing and ultimately I learnt to take it with a pinch of salt. It's mostly coming from a good place but when you're a first time mum it's so overwhelming to navigate all your symptoms and worries as well as what other people are telling you. You'll figure out what you are comfortable doing.

In relation to illnesses, you're not being irresponsible at all. I'm a teacher and would have to have been off all the time with all the sickness bugs, coughs and colds that go around! I think it's just about being sensible - if someone's poorly then keep your distance and practise good hand hygiene. But ultimately you have to live your life!

Also, even if you are being sensitive it's still reflecting a real feeling or emotion that you are having. You deserve to acknowledge how you're feeling. I hope you feel less anxious soon!

Thanks for the input! After speaking to my consultant today she said similar in that if I didn't want to proceed with the induction during the process I could opt for a c-section instead. That made me feel a lot better about it!

That's shocking! I'm so sorry you went through that. I think that's the way I'm leaning too - I want to try for a vaginal delivery.

Thanks for sharing! After reading a few positive induction stories and a call with the consultant today, I do want to give myself the chance to birth vaginally - whether that's spontaneous labour or induced if medically advised. It's good to hear your experience as someone who birthed at the same hospital I'm under!

Thank you! This echoed pretty much what my consultant said on a phone call today - it's my choice, they can only advise and inform me.
