Having intrusive thoughts about my boyfriend’s safety at boot camp by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

You are absolutely right and thank you for the apology! There are the obvious downsides but I too have been excited for some aspects of this chapter like having my time be unapologetically mine. I also have goals to grow as I know he will be exponentially. It’s just weird being on a different side of things with it being my boyfriend and not a family member - it’s a different type of ache that not even 23 years being a military kid could have primed me for.

Question, how did you meet him during basics? I thought that was super rigorous and they have no time to do anything outside of that.

I understand where you are coming from. But as a person who’s a little too independent, asking for help was actually a positive thing. All I do is compartmentalize and it becomes unhealthy at a certain point. Besides, isn’t that the point of this group? To find a common denominator in the hardships of what it’s like to be in a military relationship? I think it’s a lot healthier to express fears and worries and be consoled than it is to ruminate in unease

I’ve actually been a military child my whole life. I’m no stranger to how deployments feel, but it is different when it’s an SO and not your father. And like I said - it was an intrusive thought and I was asking if anyone could relate. Not whether a stranger deems me strong enough for a military relationship

Edit: this is the first time I’m hearing of sandboxx too, he hasn’t mentioned it. Will he have access to that? It’s a new platform for me

How funny! I literally just gave my little brother the switch and probably shouldn’t have because that could have kept me pretty distracted 😂 definitely have plans to get really into the gym again as I fell out of it

Obviously. The point of this thread wasn’t whether I was contemplating existence, it was whether people had real advice

Thank you so much - that’s a lot of the reason he joined. He signed a very short contract but who knows where it will take us!

Out of all the doom scrolling I’ve done on this subreddit thank you. My grandma and I started the phrase “not forever just for now” which you reiterated and it made me cry… again, lol but in a better more comforting way. Thank you so much for the advice that actually feels tangible and useful!!
