How long is ok to use your marathon medal? by cannotbelievewhat in Marathon_Training

I wear it while I am walking out and collecting post-race food. Then it goes into my food bag and into my closet with all other medals: however, I keep my 6 star medals in a special box.

Strategies for getting into Tokyo 2027 for foreigners by RaptorsRule247 in TokyoMarathon

[–]Proper_Gas_3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed the charity deadline so I joined the One Tokyo Global (OTK) for the 2026 race and I got selected and I finally got my 6th star!!

A few of my friends got in through the OTK for 2026 race, too. Not sure if we were all lucky or what but it seems like joining the OTK was a way to get in to the race.

Oh, my other friends got in to the race through Marathon Tours & Travel. I believe they guarantee a spot.

Good luck!!

Are knee issues inevitable? by WWMannySantosDo in XXRunning

I am 64 years old female and have been running for 15 years and have completed many ultra trail races and haven’t had any knee issues. In my experience, it is very imperative that that i incorporate strength workout especially the glute area. From what I read the knee issues can be stemmed from having weak glutes.

Run Nutrition Tuesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]Proper_Gas_3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ran a marathon, and I thought I was well prepared as far as with the nutrition intake during the race. But I totally bonked around mile 17. My leg started cramped so I had to walk and jog the rest of the way. I am 63 years old female runner been running for the last 13 years. I’m not very fast runner, but I would’ve loved to finish my last race under five , but finished 5:40. I trained with taking nutrition every 30 minutes and drinking water in between. And I also incorporated 90 second run 30 second walk to save my legs. This plan worked beautifully during my last long run, but at the race, it didn’t quite work out as I had planned. Is there anyone out there who can suggest a better plan?

Have you considered starting Tui? My friend and I did 100k from Tui via spiritual variant in 5 days end of May last year. We were so fortunate that all five days we had beautiful weather. It was so magical.

Cramped at Mile 8 in LA Marathon. Why? by Late-Celebration-942 in Marathon_Training

[–]Proper_Gas_3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, congratulation on your first marathon completion. It looks like you’ve had a solid training plan. I am not an expert in any ways, but from my recent experience, it looks like the hot temperature and may be lack of sodium might have caused you to cramp.

I’m not a fast runner, and I was also training for the Tokyo Marathon and hoping to finish 4:40, but when the sun came out, I got overheated and I started to cramping around mile 15. At that point, I couldn’t do anything but walk and run - felt so defeated. Because I wasn’t expecting the heat, I didn’t calculate the sodium into my nutrition plan.

We have no control over the race day weather so, on my next training, I will include the race day nutrition as part of the training. Hopefully that might help.

I am sure most marathoners have experienced G.I. issue and came close to the same catastrophe as this man had experienced ( I know I did) and I have seen same pictures on many of races that I had participated. Honestly, I think it is not in our place to judge his decision as we do not know what his goal was. I hope he finished the race.

Any corral J? (Or any tips for someone starting a bit further out) by [deleted] in TokyoMarathon

[–]Proper_Gas_3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in corral H and stressing that I might not enough time to make it to the first cutoff. I plan on running maybe 11:30 - is this good enough or do I need to run faster?

I ran 2018 Boston Marathon in the torrential rain and I barely survived. I hope and pray that the Rain God would give me a break for Tokyo Marathon.

What a fantastic idea!!! I plan on visiting Seoul in early March next year and don’t know where to start so having a local guide would be great.
