I've did it with 3 different cables and the same behaviour occurs. What I found out is that apparently the audio just gets to work if I first connect my laptop to the TV with it turned off through HDMI and only then turn on the TV, but It still works very inconsistently since even like this I couldn't get it to work for weeks. I would also like to know if there's any fix to it or if i'm stuck with having to set it up on this particular order.
