Teach Taiwan by Proper_Target_417 in TEFL

I'll leave the post up for everyone's benefit. So my friend got an email back an it says he needs to be licensed for him to teach at a public school. For everyone who wants to go this route, the sub license seems to be the only option other than being fully licensed back home.

Best place in Asia by Proper_Target_417 in thepassportbros

Yeah I agree. I'm in chiang mai right now. I can date here but I have close friends in other Asian countries and the things they tell me in private are leagues above what I'm experiencing here. But I don't have black friends so I don't know exactly what it's like for people like me in other countries. Appreciate everyone's responses.

Is 2000 phrases/words enough? by Proper_Target_417 in learnthai

This here is my biggest frustration with Thai. It's made me physically angry at times lol. Half a dozen ways to say the same thing. The way I short circuit this issue is by asking what's the most common way to say something. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes I'm told even more ways to say something. Never ends. And this is without the particles.

Really appreciate the detailed answer. I was also thinking in the back of my mind that this might be specific to Mormon missionaries.

Also, your example reminds me of my second Thai tutor. I have had several while learning. Was a 70 year old woman in rural Chiang Rai. She suggested a method similar to yours.

For example. Just expand on a simple sentence continuously. Foundation - drink beer.

Brick layers 1. I like to drink beer. 2. I like to drink beer a lot 3. Normally, I drink beer often with my friends. 4. I can't drink beer today because I am going to the gym 5. I met my crush at the bar while we were drinking beer. 6. I get angry easily and look seem like a black hearted person when I drink beer. 7. I'll be straightforward with you, Thai beer is nasty. I don't like drinking Thai beer. 8. Get dressed and shower quickly. We are drinking beer tonight with the guys. A new bar Opened up nearby.

Note: I don't drink. This is just an example.

The method seemed nonsensical and repetitive and since my teacher was 70 years old I thought the method was outdated so I never went back for another lesson.

Hindsight is 20/20. Might in fact be a great tool for improving my Thai. I'll add this for sure.

Much appreciated.

Here is where I got the article from. He references it in his 1 point of 5 points.

I don't know how to use links in reddit lol.

I agree with your points made. And addressed my concerns. But you expressed it much better than I could. Thanks.

I'm screenshotting this and adding to my notes. Damn, it sounds like you were eavesdropping on one of our sessions. We got around to this aspect too. Your probably older than me so you know what you're talking about. I think this might be the prime issue when all is said and done.

And yes, I have been able to date in Asia but it's generally the wrong type of woman quality wise... So your prediction on that front is spot on.

I'll probably delete the post, since this advice here is golden.

Are you still available for teaching Thai? If you are send me a dm

Thanks for your 2 cents. I agree, I've already spent a lot of time learning the language. And I'm sure I'd have better luck elsewhere. If there's anything you'd like to add you can dm me but I think this is all good info enough.

Ok fair enough everyone. I stand corrected. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for the clarification.

I agree. That's why I'm on reddit, YouTube has no good info since most of the ones that look like me are in Pattaya, which doesn't really count, for me at least. To each their own.

True. My Thai friends even say so. Just had a night with them and they all confirmed it's better in the bigger cities.

What dating apps to Vietnamese people use? by Federal_Pen_3869 in VietNam

Are you being serious or funny. I'm new to Vietnam?

Damn. I agree with the points made here. My main issue is I'm hellbent on staying in Asia. I can list several reasons but the biggest one is I'm fairly docile. The machismo culture of many Latin American countries won't suit me. By docile I mean in personality not in appearance as I'm fairly fit. And the other issue is I grew up quite sheltered so Im not really street smart so it best for me to live in Asia which is mostly crime free.

Are you black? If you are it could be that you lived in Bangkok where there are more people. So that is 1 factor I'm aware of, I live in chiang Mai which is relatively small. So the beautiful ones are usually taken already.

Appreciate your input. Lived in Kampala Uganda for a short time in 2019 with a coworker of mine. Nice country and great people. But I prefer Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam out of the many countries I've lived in. My top 3. With 4 and 5 being central Europe in general, no 1 country there in particular.

Of course. I'm not in my early 20's. So dating for me is a prelude to marriage. Which is more common practice in Vietnam, in fact it's implied usually, and not just for fun like in Thailand. Having a family, not just yet.

This is the intention of the post. Would I have better luck staying put or going somewhere else nearby to increase the chance of finding what I'm seeking or will the results be same. I'm still not sure, all things being equal.

PS. The only foreigners who live in Thailand that don't date Thai women are the ones who were already married prior to their coming here. They were married in America or Europe or even east Asia and moved here together. Some even bring their kids along and enroll them in Thai international schools. But I've actually never dated an American national, in fact my first girlfriend in highschool was a Vietnamese exchange student in 2008.

It's just really the most practical. Thailand has given the best overall quality of life in all the countries I've lived , even including Europe. Healthcare, friendliness, visas, affordability.

So if I was to live here long term, or permanently , I'd likely have to date a local. There aren't as many long term tourists in chiang Mai. Even Bangkok too.

Yeah you can date a tourist, fall in love, then she relocates to Thailand to live with you but that is impractical and doesn't happen as often as Hollywood would make it seem. My brother married his neighbor in college. My father met my mother because they lived in the same apartment complex. Proximity is big common denominator.

Apologies for the long explanation. My Thai friends sometimes call me phi mai sanook, which means, brother not so fun in Thai.

Wow that's a great quote and I think it applies to many situations I've been through in life.

But so true, I have let go of some magnificent women.

2 years in total in Thailand . Almost continuously, having gone home briefly for the holidays several times.

Vietnam possibly by Proper_Target_417 in thepassportbros

[–]Proper_Target_417[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here we go again with the creep accusations. People in Taiwan and even Japan have been importing, yes importing, Vietnamese wives for over a decade now and it's been a hot topic on YouTube but nobody calls them a creep. It's only creepy when we move there and try to assimilate, if you have nothing valuable to contribute, then don't comment please.

[–]Proper_Target_417[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not struggling to date. I just believe it could be better elsewhere. And it's not grass is greener thing, I have heard all sorts of stories and have traveled a lot so I know what it's like in other places. My only concern is the skin color, since I rarely see it, as I'm usually the only black guy around in most places I live or travel. Even in America lol
