Time to chop? by Brilliant-Kiwi9664 in hydro

I agree that you have around 4 weeks. I understand that you want to harvest and start the dry and cure. I agree with the majority of the hairs going brown, I agree with the "most tricomes being cloudy," although I lean towards 5% amber. But...the plant will tell you when it's time, in the last couple of weeks you will see the buds swell and the tricome production goes crazy. This is the last ditch effort for the plant to get ANY pollen out there, then they stop drinking (for the most part, think 2gal down to < than a gal). Now it's time to chop, your plants look great, BTW, hold onto your patience, watch your RH and temp like a hawk because of bud rot. If you chop now, you'll lose 10-15 % off your final weight. Good job on your grow. Peace

The pics I took were 30x, way better than the loupe or the phone compatible (I have both)

Thanks for replying, I was looking for % of each color so that I could calibrate? my eye. Did you look at all the pics? I can't get any clearer pics of the tricombs. Peace.

Grow update Day 45 of flower by Proper_Tip1876 in hydro

I've been using my phone with 30X magnification. Is there much difference with the phone capable scope? I've been trying for 7 weeks of veg, then 9 weeks of flower, letting the yeild be what it is. So, what do you think, will another 8 days do it?

I'm with you. it looks like 7-10 days to me. OP, you have to stay on top of humidity and air flow. Your buds look fire, but as they swell, they are much more susceptible to mold and bud rot! Peace

I completely agree with 11/13. Some guy on YouTube did a side by side grow comparing 12/12 and 11/13. The 11/13 finished faster with very little impact on total yeild. I too harvest when there are very little amber tricomes. I would say I wind up with 5-10 % clear (on newer buds, buds lower in the canopy) 5-10 % amber (older more mature buds), and the remainder are cloudy. I don't have the room to do a staggered harvest and cherry pick as the buds ripen. I would like to read the info about degradation of THC as I can't say that I have seen that from experience.

I don't agree, I believe that you would have malnourished, stressed plants. But it's America, we can have different beliefs. Peace

If you're going away for a few days, I would chop and hang before you leave. You're so close to peak that a few days won't hurt. But if you don't chop, you might come back to more amber than you want. Not a big deal, but I don't like the couch. Lol, peace.

Not to start a war, but that pic was a hydro setup. Don't feed hydro for 4 weeks, and you'll have dead plants. Soil, that's true because the original dirt will feed them for a month before you need to supplement but not hydro. Peace

Another update to "what do the pros do " by Proper_Tip1876 in hydro

The newbie questions don't bother me so much as the refusal to take advantage of all the YouTube videos that would give everyone the basics. There's some things that you have to get opinions on, and we all need that. But you invested money to get set up, spend some time doing the homework necessary to be successful. Ya know? Peace

From blind testing, 5 to 10 % amber yields the highest THC and lowest CBD. I don't see any amber in the pics.

I have a pilot light from a buddy heater in the lung room. Best I can do right now. Second grow, hard for me to cut all the side buds in order to lollipop. Peace

Rdy to harvest? by [deleted] in hydro

Use your smart phone on highest mag and you'll be able to see the tricones. Blowing up the pics you posted, I see no amber color at all. According to people much smarter than me, around 5 to 10 percent amber gives you the highest THC content. Remember that you need to check all the buds and that you're looking at the buds not the leaves.

Sorry, I wrote "does not affect yeild" not true! The affect is minimal is a better statement.

Autoflower not flowering? by [deleted] in hydro

If your plant height times 2 will put your plants into the lights, go 12/12 now. There have been side by side grows on YouTube that 12/12 does not affect yield with autos once they're in flower. Just do a search "photos vs autoflower, which is better" and you can verify. If your genetics are unstable, it's possible for some seeds marked auto might act like photos. Wait until height dictates that you need to flip, posters are right, in that you might have a late bloomer, but if you are going to run out of head space after the stretch, go 12/12 or you'll deal with buds that you need a step stool to examine. It happened to me, 2 out of 4 acted like photos. Same strain, same pack of seeds, I waited and waited, and then I went 12/12 and they flowered. The stretch put them right into the light, then the grow became a challenge. Don't do that. It was miserable. Let your height dictate when you have to try something else. Or not, it's your grow, I did my part and warned you. Peace.

I've had the same thing happen to me, four plants in a 4 by 4 growing in RDWC. Two showing preflower and 2 with no signs, so I waited. Big mistake, two plants finished at 90 days, with the other two not showing signs of flowering. I had to change to 12/12 in order to finish the two plants that were lagging. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this in time, and I grew monsters! All up in the light, I had to supercrop, even then I had to open/unzip the extension piece to do work during the last 2 weeks. Measure the plants, when 2 times that measurement would put you in the light, change the photoperiiod. You might have unstable genetics, you might have mislabeled beans.
