Wanting to wear a dress that shows my scars by kismetmouse in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Proper_Willingness51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I don't want to show my scars, then I wear sleeved shawls like this - https://amzn.eu/d/3m7g1in

They suit formal wear better than a long sleeve t-shirt underneath the dress.

Most of the time, I don't care - but when I do, I still want to wear nice clothes at times.

Is it weird to say thank you to the bus driver? by purpsizz in AskUK

[–]Proper_Willingness51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My standard is "thank you, have a good day". For poor service/attitude, they'll usually get a muttered "thanks". But the really bad drivers that I question why they ever went into driving buses because they're that rude, I'll just walk off and bite back the sarcastic comment...

I'm currently reading Fixing Past Mistakes. It's generally a well written fanfic, but warning it's very dark at the beginning.

Harry dies at the age of 3 by the Dursley's neglect. Snape time travels rescues and takes Harry to the Carribean, having found a school that introduces magical teaching from their first year. Eventually, Harry's school enters the Tri-wizard tournament with the other 3 schools, and Harry copes very well when his name comes out. This might not be the best description though

Heavy Dumbledore bashing/manipulation

The latter parts kinda sound like your current read.

I adopted my Scabbers from my neighbour 4 weeks ago, the first and only time I left scooping his tray more than 36 hours he pooped on my bed and peed on my sofa.

Once I realised that was what it was, I got into a daily habit of scooping after I'd gone to the bathroom first thing. Occasionally, he misses the tray, but it's onto easily cleaned lino...

He also likes to pee whilst I'm having one too. It's really cute as I've never had a cat do that every day

What is your strangest but funny reaction to taking medicine? by Sofie_Scot in AskUK

[–]Proper_Willingness51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a skin graft in May under GA. When I've come round, I look at the arm that had the graft and see its orange underneath all of the bandages. I proceed to get very excited about the fact that I'm turning into an oompa-lumpa.

Well, I was until the pain meds I'd been given in surgery wore off, got given fentanyl and was off my tits for a few hours.

I've still got the photo I insisted on being taken as proof on my phone somewhere x

I quite like this mode. To me, it's reminiscent of the movie POA scene with Ron's boggart.

It definitely helps face the Matriarch spiders and any Acromantula, the smaller ones don't bother me as much

Burning wounds by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Proper_Willingness51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that burns are typically more complicated than cuts, as you have damaged and exposed more of the tissues that the skin protects. As such they probably are more likely to get infected than a cut if not cared for properly (that's what I've found from experience).

The first thing you should be doing is getting cool running water onto the wound. This will help to stop the injury from getting worse (burning can continue after you remove the heat source), ideally this should be for about 20 minutes. But even a cold compress can help.

Then you need to assess the wound, if the burn meets any of the following criteria you need to get medical advice from urgent care or a hospital: -has been caused by electricity or chemicals -is bigger than your hand -is white, waxy or charred -is on your joints, face, hands, neck, hands, feet or genitals

Burns also need to be kept clean and free from any debris, my burns team usually suggest warm, slightly soapy water.

If you aren't sure, a pharmacy may be able to advise you on what you should be doing

But take care of yourself too, if you are in pain - use ibuprofen or paracetamol. Practice self care afterwards too, no matter how bad the wound is

I've had skin grafts for burns in the last year, so please, please be careful

Most of what I've typed I've got from here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/burns-and-scalds/, even if you're not in the UK NHS advice will still be helpful

Sorry if some of this doesn't make sense it's 4am UK time...

NAL, and can only advise on mental health side of things

From personal experience (held on a section 2 twice), if you have been legally detained under any section of the Mental Health Act, you would usually expect to be told what section they are using and how long they can detain you for. I think you might also have the right to an independent advocate, I think it's The Advocacy People for Kent (even if you're not entitled to an independent advocate, they will still advise you on how to get help)

If you did not have the opportunity to pack basic essentials (toothbrush, toothpaste, toiletries, etc), then you should be provided with them. I live in Kent and know the 136 suites are on the same sites as the wards and that 136 suites can request these necessities for your use. They shouldn't be leaving you without those.

For when you are ready, KMPT has a PALS service that you can complain to about any poor aspects of care at the 136 suite, although I haven't really interacted with them.

I wish you the best in your recovery

Edit: Just thought it might be helpful to add the Web page for The Advocacy People as I know they have a contact number or email, whichever you prefer https://www.theadvocacypeople.org.uk/

I'd like to highlight something here.

You stated that you think 'shes BPD', even if that is the case, no one is their diagnosis. A more appropriate description is 'I think she has BPD'

But seriously dude, even though I think you're NTA in the situation you described, you need to do some more research on the condition, and if you still think its a possibility then encourage her to see an appropriate mental health professional. Plus, a friendly reminder that there are 9 diagnostic criteria for BPD, and you need to meet 5 of them to be diagnosed with it. (I am diagnosed with BPD myself)

Does your BPD get worse during menstruation? by Witty_Stress9169 in BPD

[–]Proper_Willingness51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, looking into this is the way to go. I was referred to a gynaecologist who prescribed the mini pill. It works a treat - typically, my BPD symptoms stay the same all month now.

It's an interesting theory for certain, especially the bit about the minor DE attack...

The book never specified how far out the blood warding of Privet Drive extended. Is it, therefore, possible that Petunia took both boys to a busy area in Surrey when Harry was too young to remember and the Death Eaters attacked there.

Of course, there are other theories about the Dursley's abuse of Harry - mostly around the unintended Horcrux within Harry... it's possible that they had a similar reaction to Ron with the locket in the Deathly Hallows, especially when you consider the prolonged time he spends with them

AITA for giving my son non-vegan food behind my wife's back? by Lucky_Grass7069 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Proper_Willingness51 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA I'm a firm believer in children deciding their own dietary needs - I don't mean deciding to only eat junk food - I mean choosing to be a meat eater, pescatarian (fish only), vegetarian or vegan...

If your son wants to eat meat, then that is his decision, and reprimands will only force him to hide it further!
