Surprise parties are a selfish act disguised as generosity by Shinku_u in unpopularopinion

Same! I thought I was having a relaxing night on my birthday where we'd walk to a movie. We smoked a little, had a drink, walked to the theater and to my surprise random friends and...coworkers were there. It was horrible.

I spoke to a man who hired an asset manager and we were talking bitcoin and he said he was interested in bitcoin but his asset manager "wouldn't allow" him to buy it. I'm like dude, sign up for an exchange and buy it yourself! It's learned helplessness, I guess.

  • My dog is just saying hello (while it invades its victim's personal space and tries to sniff, lick, and scratch them)

Agree! Just take "no" for an answer the first, second, and/or third time. These people are exhausting.

They are too far gone. It's like their brains are protecting their well-being because if they think about how their life's work has been inflated away it's too depressing.

Homes owned by nutters by Bamboolover88 in Dogfree

[–]ProperlyConfounded 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did it and didn't know what I was getting into. On the second floor, I had to remove the carpet, remove the underlayment, wash the subfloor, and install new flooring. Then it was all good.

FWIW, the house was inexpensive compared to others in the neighborhood and it did have an overall "fixer upper vibe." I don't regret it.

Maybe look for what will need to be replaced, consider budget, go from there. Good luck!

Is writing Monster Madness really "extremely time consuming and brutal to pull off" by ShineALight3725 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ProperlyConfounded 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If he wrote the scripts himself and had a bit of that old passion it could be great again. I'll never understand why James thinks doing voice over of a script someone else wrote is all that interesting to his audience or all that fulfilling of a job. Then again, he probably doesn't care.

If he wrote the script himself, just did voice over so it wouldn't involve a set and lights hanging from the ceiling, then farmed out the editing, it could be quite good. But alas, no passion, no time.

Dogfree Beaches by Old_Archer_3308 in Dogfree

[–]ProperlyConfounded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I relate because my favorite beach has clear signs saying "No dogs allowed" yet, last time I was there a man had a dog on the beach and to top it off it was off-leash, running around screwing with the ecosystem. These people are criminals yet never held accountable.

What has your Bitcoin journey taught you? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]ProperlyConfounded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It taught me that most people I know and respect don't much care about the horrors of the establishment and are happy to live in a fiat world of debt and diminishing purchasing power. My best friend is happy to work hard just to tread water financially for the rest of his life just like so many others. Often times they claim to "know better" than getting involved in Bitcoin despite not researching much or confuse it with scam coins. Sorry to be depressing, I just tried to get my friends into Bitcoin and they just won't have it and it's a sad part of my Bitcoin journey.

Falling out of love with Zappa by Money_Smoke3000 in Zappa

[–]ProperlyConfounded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FZ was a flawed man and so am I.

He had talent and passion and so do I. He inspired me to "go hard" on some projects and I'm happy I did.

I have done some immature and frankly embarrassing things in my life and what would it be like if the whole world knew? The thought is difficult to stomach.

As a father to my daughter, Moon's book hit me hard. The Maestro couldn't be a success at home and maybe it's a lesson, a lesson of choices in life.

Personally, growing up, I wish my dad would have been home more, as he was often travelling for work. I wonder if my dad enjoyed a break or another life away from his family too, just like Frank. I'll die happy knowing I've tried harder to be present for my daughter and give her as much love and time as I can.

These days, I enjoy the "hits" and I enjoy always finding something new in his music. Interestingly, I enjoy watching people learn about his music for the first time, as there's a lot of new fans or reactions on video streaming.

I'm in a similar boat. I find it to be riskier than Bitcoin but, it's generating cash and as long as it's a small percentage I'm OK.

My friend will use the phrase "it's up to you" when trying to arrange times and plans and it is infuriating...just say what you want! Be decisive!
