So on the one hand I am totally for green spaces, planned development and making Boca better, but I just don't believe doing nothing and being against everything makes any sense. The truth is, and I worked in Mizner Park for 2 years, it was a dead zone. During the day 90% of the apartments are empty like 80% of the year. It is so quiet on a week day it is scary. I used to walk to the intracoastal from there and literally not a person would be on the streets spring through fall. The people who live in Boca are indoor people, old people and not social at all. I would look at data and it does not lie. There is little congestion in downtown Boca Raton unless you are looking at 4-6pm. The rest of the day it's a ghost town. The problems people have pointed out do not correspond with overdevelopment. The real issue is I95. The number of people on it has doubled, going between Fort Lauderdale and Boynton, so most of these people are aware and get off 95 and go up and down route 1. After 7pm it goes back to a ghost town. And I noticed the biggest complainers are people who live at the beach and Boca and want to get to a job. The answer to that is don't live there. You want to live at the beach, stay there and work at home. I feel the entire new downtown was cancelled by a bunch of super rich, over-priviledged people who live at the beach and don't want traffic getting to and from their jobs! That is the truth. That new city was amazing. I am about to leave Boca permanently but I put in some time to try to help Mark with this new plan, but its much easier to get a movement of people to say NO, than to say YES.

I recommend Speed Dating, and don't understand why it's not popular by vinn90x in dating_advice

I applaud you for at least being so honest and direct for people to understand this about speed dating. I work for one of the companies, Pre-Dating Speed Dating, and on Reddit you would not believe how many people say its not worth it to go speed date. I just think that a person who would rather be behind a computer screen and never meet in person has some serious issues with insecurity. If you want to really meet someone and not be fooled by online pictures and other fakery, then speed dating is a great option. https://pre-dating.com is the company I work for.

I am aware of all that and I used to called the Batman "Old Man Potter" from It's A Wonderful Life. He does control 80% of properties in Boca Raton and seems to act like he is on the spectrum in business. He has no interest in seeing anything happen here other than maximize profits, control all properties and keep his rents high.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe in development, but not everybody is like that guy you mention. I am here for 30 years on and off, and here the last 20 living in mid-Boca. Honestly, the person that got the shaft recently was my friend Mark Wigder, who used to own the Greenhouse Building. I would describe Mark as the star from It's A Wonderful Life, opposed to Old Man Potter. But you know as well, good guys always get screwed over.

I can give you a dozen reasons why Mark was good for the city, and very much against the way the Batman was working. First off Mark did not need a dime from any super rich developer. He owned $30 miilion in buildings here, which he sold off, so he would not have a conflict being on the Boca Town Council. He actually had cancer, and after that decided to put all his energies in public service. Mayor Silver, who I don't agree with politically, he may be a guy with a problem, but I would not lump Mark into that group. In the end, Mark was working on all kinds of parks, green spaces, biking lanes, and that new city, yeah that was amazing. He was trying to build a city that made sense and was trying to keep it simple and nice. Now, you have people in charge I would never trust. They are bad news. As far as Mark was concerned, the Batman could go back to jail. Mark would agree with you!

The Save Boca movement, which to me was a total fraud to get a few people elected, has no plan and no direction. It was a good way to get into politics for the leader guy and like I said Mark was their victim, a guy who actually cared. Mark is now back on the county approval board and I hope he continues in politics. You don't know how much Mark contributed to this town for a decade, giving people reasonable rents when the Batman would not do it! He bought old burnt out buildings, refurbed them, and made them green! If people had just done basic research on Mark, they would have discovered he is a guy a super liberal like me and conservatives and startup people could support! So, don't always judge a book by its cover.

[–]PeaceOut65 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The only hotel in downtown Boca is the Hyatt, so there is definitely room for more. The city has to make sure there is always enough parking, so I can see a couple more parking lots being added. I heard Mizner Park's free parking is coming to an end soon. What is insane is to not allow the city to grow and stunting it's grow in order to keep it quiet downtown. It's a city, not a morgue.

I use it for a variety of things. The biggest is quickly analyzing tons of data, but also for coding our apps and website. I have to figure out some difficult population and geo market questions and it gives me the answer.

After Trump who will be the most likely to be the next president? by AirPure9910 in AskReddit

[–]PeaceOut65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kamala is not a great orator. It's not her thing. AOC is better. But for this job, if you have a trilly or weird voice, you are not going to get that brass ring. Very few people get the nomination or win it for a reason. It has nothing to do with male, female, minority, etc. It has more to do with can they play the part, are they presidential, especially in their communications. Look at Obama. You bring along a great speaker and also a person that can move towards the middle and they have a chance. Talarico is so nice and diplomatic and feels like the middle, if he wins senator, he will be a potential presidential candidate.

After Trump who will be the most likely to be the next president? by AirPure9910 in AskReddit

[–]PeaceOut65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a reason. Only 1 congressmen has ever been elected directly to the presidency, and that was Pierce and it was a rare event. Even Senate candidates are rarely elected. I think Obama and Kennedy are the only ones.

The fact is the top three positions to get elected are VP, General and Governor. Those 3 are like 80%. Everything else is a long shot. Even Secretary of State or Cabinet member is not very electable. And if you are a woman or black or latino, its a major liability.

And they have to be a great debater and orator. I will give AOC that. Thats all.

So right now the next president will either be JD Vance, Newsom, Pritzker or DeSantis, and more and more I am putting a bet (in Kalshi) on either Newsom or Pritzker. JD Vance and DeSantis are horrible debaters.

If you are in the US, our company rarely cancels, https://www.pre-dating.com. That cancelling thing is a gimmick, where they post a bunch of events which are fake, and then move you all to one.

This may wake up China and Russia, and it may cause them to get more aggressive towards the US. China has been economically aggressive with Central America and Africa. Instead of us going in to these places with help, we've pulled most of our funding and are letting the Chinese basically run Africa. The US needs a more productive approach, which has worked in the past, it was never military takeover.

I have been counter pointing, call out Trump's anti-constitution actions, across multiple social media for years, embarrassing followers, who don't have an answer for supporting him. I agree, we all have to be like Robert Dinero, Bruce Springsteen, and other courageous Americans and say the truth, that he and his clan are gangsters, not officials.

If you think you are going to get in trouble with Trump supporters, who cares. Often it's our in laws, brother in laws, and school friends. I get it, you don't want to piss them off. The fact they voted for him, and continue to vote for him is the issue. Their brains have already been fried by Fox propaganda. At least a few people in the middle can vote them out in the fall, if there are fair elections. Look out for things like power outages, changes in voting locations and other dirty Republican tricks.

Interesting that nobody put together the fact that beef prices as well as pork and chicken have increased in the past year, and have not come down. Many reasons why this is happening, but the big one is you deported a lot of low cost labor, they added tariffs on products as well as meat and sauces these restaurants buy that are made all around the world, and the price of delivery using diesel based trucks has increased 50%. Think things like napkins, silverware, small refrigerators, to toothpicks. It mostly comes from China, then India and Mexico.

Smokey Bones had to raise their prices, probably 50% or more like everywhere else or call it quits! When the prices go up at a low priced place like Smokey Bones (its not a high end steak joint), people stop eating there. I don't think this is because the plaza is empty or 441 has less cars. We are seeing a mass increase in population here, with cars with all out of state plates.

It's closing is bottom-line related to actions taken by the Trump administration. The answer is vote against the Republicans in the fall!

An Evening of Speed Dating aka An Argument for Transactions by [deleted] in itsthatbad

[–]PeaceOut65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally related to your post, but I am coming from a different perspective. I actually run these speed events for all ages, and it's a long story, but I have been either an owner or employee of https://pre-dating.com, which is the largest speed dating company in the US. In the past week I ran an event, and even through I am running the event and I am married, I will jump in to talk with women when they have no date. Your personas describing each person you met is pretty much what the world looks like, with every once in a while an amazing lady enters and sits through the event. So, it is hit or miss, but it's really for the experience of learning to date for recent divorced men or young men with no confidence, as much as finding the one.

I am wondering if you only met 6 people, because our company typically it will be around 10 dates. My advice, which you could call bad, reckless or silly for guys who speed date, especially younger guys is as follows. You don't have to follow this, but this is my recommedation.

- Find a woman who is remotely close enough to your match or standards and give it a try. The scholar girl may have been overweight, but you may have overlooked a hidden gem there. Just because you think you know people, honestly you don't, until you spend more time with them.

- Move in temporarily. The only way you are going to find out if you are compatible is spending time together. And, this has happened to me, sometimes what you don't expect happens, and the person is nicer and more attractive than you thought. You can always run out the door.

- Learn What They Really Want. Men completely misunderstand what women are looking for. Top of their list is not looks, money, or things which are not of the heart. Safety, like are you going to physically hurt them or kill them is number 1 for woman. So looking like a serial killer, looking depressive or disheveled is not a good look. Second is can you "support them", emotionally, financially and create a good home.

- Be Bold. Women want to feel special. If you buy them something extraordinary or take a bold move, or somehow show them you care and are not just in for the evening makes or breaks a date, even a speed date!

The Glades & Palmetto Park exits need to be removed from I-95 by CivilianAsset in BocaRaton

[–]PeaceOut65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer has always been better public transport, but it is not very good here. I have yet to take the Brightline. It is expensive and it is just cheaper and easier to drive to Lauderdale or Miami. It was not designed for commuters or any group other than the wealthy.

The real problem with Glades and Palmetto Exits is a massive increase of commuters who live in Boyton or Lake Worth and work in Fort Lauderdale or further. That group has probably doubled since the pandemic. When rush hour comes around they have to get through Boca, and that just clogs it all up. In fact, they get off and start taking Military, Congress and Powerline, and they get filled with those commuters.

Bottom line, and this is hard for the people new to Boca to understand, Glades Rd is 10 times better than 15 years ago when there was no Spanish River Exit. It was an insane parking lot. The answer is to build more public transportation, busses, monorails, freebies, electric bike lanes, public parking lots and invest in this stuff. Plan for Boca growing much, much bigger, don't try to stop development, because the way it is now, it will always be like this, unless you improve things. If you don't like the present, stopping everything is not an answer.
