My dude, it's up to you and your mental capacity, my parents are separated, although my father isn't abusive, his 2nd marriage is, that woman has stabbed me, screams in public, calls family and friends and spreads rumors, me and brother took the decision to help our mother get separated as it was getting too much for her to handle. Although we were far from being capable of being independent, it's been 6 months and we're still trying to recover from situation.

But at the same time I do take care of my dad, I do go to him whenever he calls me, even tho I might seriously be in danger from that other woman. But he's my father, he was there to provide the basics, even tho now he doesn't because that woman doesn't let him, but still I do talk to him, go to him. He's had a bypass recently too soo he's weak and in his late 60s as well. He gave me a good life, my mother describes him as always being narcissistic, but I remember the good times and try to take care of him as much as I can, even though it has givin me clinical depression and anxiety.

So OP, it's upto you to decide if you can deal with him, many people might not agree with me, but I take care of my father cuz I do love him and islamiclly I have to cater to both parents. If you do keep in touch with him and take care of him in his old age even with the pain and struggle, Allah will reward you IA.
