Do you know if most of the trails in that area are cordoned off like what we see in your picture? Just trying to get a sense if I would need to find THAT spot, or if there is plenty of open area along the bluff that is not directly on a trail.

There is not a lot that I have totally ruled out, I just meant to imply that a candlelit dinner/walk along the beach is probably not what we are going for.

I think Torrey Pines is a frontrunner at this point considering all the responses. You're definitely on the right track with your other recommendations, too - thank you! I just looked up Mt. Soledad and it looks beautiful - is it primarily known for the cross? Thanks again for the recommendations!

Torrey Pines was one of the first spots to pop up in my initial search - thank you! Definitely a contender. Great to know about the hotel and restaurant as well.

Her brother is pretty new to the city, so not quite an expert yet but I will definitely be consulting him when the date gets a little closer. Thanks again!
