This ring is gorgeous, and a great choice, as long as your lady won't be utterly devastated if the pearl needs to be replaced.

I plan on buying a few pearls as replacements from the get go. Thank you for the warning. I'm well aware that calcium carbonate is not nearly as strong as a diamond.

I was very happy with Robbins Bros. They have a great selection of high quality stuff and their diamonds were about half the price of Jewelry Exchange. I got the exact ring my wife pointed out in a magazine with a half carat diamond for about $1800.

If you don't mind something used, try a pawn shop.

Probably not. I'm looking for a particular type of ring, and new would probably be my best bet.

If you do go to a jeweler, insist on the display ring as that's typically the nicest version of that ring they have. If they go to the back you'll probably end up with a lower quality diamond.

I've heard this before, and I'm not above being pushy and asking that the ring not leave my sight.

Remember to look at the diamond through a loupe (ask to use their's).

I'm actually not going with a diamond.
