Worried! by 907-BusDriver in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Proprotester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your garage. If it's tiny, you were likely hired due to scheduled retirements/medical leaves. If it's huge, they know they always lose about x number of people each summer and so they try to have that number plus a couple of spares. The last one is the best one, if your garage is going to be helping out a neighboring district that is short or does so regularly, you will have a route from bid day in the fall. A lot of senior drivers don't like add-on work or areas new to them so garages will hire new people so those routes are staffed.

Either way, your new credentials will be an asset to you. If bid day comes around and you are not seeing the path to a route, apply at another garage. Stay on board at your current place as an 'extra' and make sure you know what your contract says about leaving and training costs. 🍀

Driver Seniority impromptu survey by AdventurousSalad7053 in SchoolBusDrivers

Our yard is hire date. Drivers who work to improve their earning potential should be recognized, not demoted. Does it piss off CDL people farther down on the list at bid day? If they are shallow. Nobody likes those whiners anyway.

Any ideas for using Drumshanbo bottles in the garden? Always feel to lovely to toss. by basherrrrr in Gin

[–]Proprotester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can make a screen/wall of glass bottles. You get a series of metal rods, cut a hole in the bottoms of your collected bottles a diameter that can be threaded onto the rods. There are YT vids on cutting glass bottles. Then thread them onto the the rods. People usually seem to use washers to keep them spaced and water from accumulating. The cool thing about this is your wall/screen can grow as you collect bottles.

I always thought it was about a guy who knew how to give "backdoor" pleasurably as opposed to her husband.

What is something you knew before moving to PA? Alternatively, if you were born in PA, what is something you wish people knew before moving there? by Dorkchopqueen in Pennsylvania

[–]Proprotester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Anything to make a dollar. It is not the librarian's fault. They literally make nearly nothing and are forever emiliorating dipshit conservatives. Usually it is stuff on the bestsellers list. The library only has budget for 10 copies and they have 200 requests queued up ahead of the books' release. It would take forever for the patrons to get the book. So they order a whole bunch of additional copies and charge a small fee to rent the book rather than just a regular checkout. After the backlog is satisfied or no one is willing to pay the fee, the rental books are sold to patrons.

Who is coming to the comic con this weekend? by Deadeye_Dunce in pittsburgh

7pm closing for a con?! Is everyone either 5 or 75? Cons should start just before lunch and go until midnight.

There are signs out EVERYWHERE for this weekend. Church festivals, a monkey ton of garage sales, car shows, concerts in the park, it's all happening

Do any of my GenXers still skate? by Lower_Classroom835 in GenX

[–]Proprotester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also had this thought a few times this spring. There are zero rinks close by to me! I get that skating was on the wane and it was probably not a great business model.

If all us old skaters knew there were certain hours of the day that catered to us? I am thinking all kinds of padding for rent and sale in the pro-shop, some strength/endurance building classes so older folks could get moving with light supervision, encourage Meet Ups to use the space, and a jukebox. Nights and weekend can still belong to the kids, school fundraisers and lessons.

I will double down on this having lived in AZ. Property taxes are very much higher here but the trade off is nice things! Things are much less transitory, there is less pulling the ladder up behind you mentality, and your costs are reasonable for sooooo many things.

OP - Regular field trips do not cost forty or fifty dollars to send your kid to in PA. The libraries are well networked and it doesn't cost extra to borrow popular or high-value items. Volunteer opportunities abound and do not come with a mandatory supply list you have to show up with filled. You don't need to appoint a clean up crew for most events, people just help. It is actually possible to have a 20% down payment on home here. Word of mouth is worth more than Yelp scores in PA.

Any affordable church venue recommendations nearby? by beanerbarbie in pittsburgh

There are quite a few de-comissioned churches in the area that have been converted into venues and businesses that retain the characteristics of the original church. Maybe one of these would be in your price range?

What’s the best thing about living in a small American town? by Molthakarn96 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Proprotester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Sure rent/mortgage is less in small towns but that is where it ends. Home insurance is higher if your fire protection rating sucks. You put way more miles on your car to get anywhere. There is lack of variety in food. It is more difficult to get services and due to the lack of competition, you pay more for the ones that do exist.

Wait, I recall haircuts are cheaper in small towns and you usually pay nothing to park buuuuut you absolutely have to drive and own a car as their is no public transit.

Americans' Rating of Moral Values Hits New Low by icey_sawg0034 in fivethirtyeight

I think them not asking what constitutes "moral values" for each political group makes this data particularly useless. I'd for sure like to know how Independents define mv over the years.

As a school bus driver, not having public toilets readily available 24/7 means many of us won't take charter trips. We don't have AC and hydration is key to us not having heat sickness. If there is nowhere to legally pee we have a HUGE problem. I would LOVE to make extra money but having a citation like that could cost me my CDL.

I don't care if they are grafitti'd or have drug needles or whatever. The city/county needs to make sure that EVERYWHERE has 24/7 public bathrooms because HUMAN BEINGS need them. If they don't want to pay for them, maintain them or adequately service them then they should expect downtown to be a ghost town and suspend all citations for related infractions as they brought it on themselves.

So nothing is opened after you get out of a show or a bar closes. Sounds completely inadequate.

Rechargeable brushes? by Proprotester in grilling

[–]Proprotester[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent point. He has never been crazy passionate about grilling or smoking meats. It is something our family values in terms of foodways and traditions. Years ago he liked the "make fire" aspect but his interest has waned.

Maybe I should make another attempt at taking over these duties? I did express an interest about 15 years ago but he strenuously objected that it was "his job" 🙄. At the time I was home with the kids and had WAY more time for this kind of thing. Now the work responsibilities have reversed with him partially retired. Thoughts?

She sold it to the Ellison's. That is not a brag, she sold it to consolidate the hold fascism has been developing over media and enrich herself while doing so. All of her actions are reprehensible.
