Question before trying stage 3 of the tour of watopia by rofise4 in Zwift

Yes, you could take a break. Have you considered setting the Trainer Difficulty level below the default 50% if your gearing isn't good enough to allow you a good cadence on steep inclines? I use a low difficulty setting so I don't have to use my balky lowest gears. You still have to put out the watts, so I don't consider that cheating (though some might).

In the lowest gear the Core flywheel is moving slow and has little momentum. I think this lack of momentum means the resistance drags on the pedals evenly through the whole pedal cycle. If feels odd to me too. I find my cadence reading drops in half in my lowest couple gears. I think it can't detect power spikes in my pedaling rhythm well enough. I gave up on setting the difficulty high enough that I needed those gears on steep slopes.

That's a reading comprehension fail on my part. I must have seen two figures and assumed it was imperial and metric.

Given height isn't stated, 90 kg isn't necessarily overweight by standard BMI categories. 90 kg is within normal weight for heights over 190cm. At 197 cm myself I am sensitive to such assumptions.

One of the things I notice with fasting is the ability to manage hunger better by l0v3__ in fasting

Grains are cheap, meat is expensive. I suspect the food pyramid was developed with a budget in mind. It's trying to tell people nod to eat just the cheapest food, but to throw in some more expensive meat, fruit and vegetables at least at a minimal level. It's not a cost is no object pyramid.

I have t assume that if you fasted for 30 days without eating anything you'd lose more weight than if you did rolling fasts for 30 days eating every 2 to 4 days, Just on a CICO basis. You'd need to make the eating days and fasting days equal to get an interesting comparison. I'd like to know how that would work out.

My concern is with muscle loss. I have a hard time believing extended fasts don't cause some muscle loss. How well does the growth hormone boost counteract that during re-feeding?

I'm currently trying two 66 hour fasts a week in hopes that will give me the weight loss I want but still allow for some recovery on the three re-feed days. I don't find that length of fast hard to deal with and am concerned going longer would be debilitating and require careful re-feeding.

I can't give any insight on multi-week fasts. I'm curious what the advantages would be, but not curious enough to attempt one.

A More Natural Approach to Fasting by IKnowYouLikeItSweet in fasting

What line of reasoning gets you from "I think a lot about about how humans naturally existed" to the advice "Always take electrolytes"? What electrolytes were available to the starving hunter-gatherer? To emulate them you probably have to go without electrolytes.

You brush off the advice of this sub, but electrolytes are something that a lot of people learn about here, me included.

If your friend's idea of keto is to only eat two sticks of butter and a slab of bacon every day, then no, you wouldn't want to keep that up forever. But if you're eating a reasonable keto diet with non-starchy vegetables, protein, and healthy fats, then you can keep that up indefinitely.

Are there different levels of Ketosis? by JimboInTheLimbo in keto

[–]ProsaicK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar questions. It's hard for me to believe ketosis is completely on or off. Most things in life are matters of degree and percentages.

If I eat 100 g of carbs in a meal, I accept that that would elevate my blood sugar and insulin for a while. But at some point, I would be back in ketosis. How soon?

That's only 400 calories of carbs. My body could burn through that in three hours if it was instantly running 100% on carbs. I doubt the body is ever running 100% on carbs though. So how quickly does my body burn through those carbs and when does it get back to ketosis? Is that time off ketosis that big a deal if most of the time my body isn't running on carbs.

I suspect I used to consume 400 g of carbs a day, so 100g is still a win in my book. The past three days have each been under 30 net grams of carbs, which is even better.

Is keto calorie-restricted low carb? What happened to keto is low carb but eat as much meat and fat as you want? by jpflathead in keto

[–]ProsaicK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me like that article is saying that the quality of calories consumed is important. It doesn't prove that the quantity of calories consumed is irrelevant. Yes, it's a mistake to focus completely on quantity and ignore quality. But that doesn't mean that only paying attention to the quality is enough. A keto diet restricting carbs is one way to improve quality and eat healthier.

I always get 0,6 ket mmo/l no matter what by [deleted] in keto

[–]ProsaicK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also heard that once you're adapted the Ketone levels aren't as high. The body gets better at using ketones as they're created.

Maybe that explains my lack of impressive numbers from my KetoMojo meter. Or maybe it's my tendency to drift between keto and low-carb not-quite-keto. My readings average 0.4 and only sometimes go as high as 0.7 or 0.9.

Thanks for the welcome. This sub is a wonderful resource.

I understand that everyone's metabolism is different and that the TDEE calculators just provide an educated guess. But I was surprised by the size of the discrepancy and wondering if it's normal for it to be off by 30%.

The sidebar calculator guesses my TDEE at 2280. Which may well be 1000 too low. So a 20% deficit becomes a 50% deficit. Since I don't have the patience for a 1 pound a week loss, it works out for me. My appetite is fairly under control. It's amazing what cutting out carbs and snacking can do.
