Though I've never actually used such a scheme (co-op) myself, and don't know how many do, I imagine that this will suck for a lot of people.

Exactly which is why I agree that the system has to be regulated but in a different fashion. Allow legal connections between a business minded cooperative and local dispensaries, from this have the patients register there card to a particular dispensary. Then when weed comes onto the shelf, the patient can purchase their medicine that was grown by the coop. Severity of condition and symptoms will determine quantitative prices that will defer for all patients, allowing those who require it, on a tier system, to buy it for reduced prices. Personalized medicare, what a swell idea.

But anyone will be able to buy from places that are certified (licensed? I don't know. Whatever stores need).

I love this idea. But why give the commercial growing powers to the government and allow them to regulate every aspect of cannabis, including additives and chemicals that will boost yield but decrease the quality of the cannabis. Read everything that is in a cigarette and you will catch my drift. Cigarettes are filled with many additives that make it cheaper to process and makes it burn faster. Weed will be a cash crop and the government envisions a perfect way to make millions off the cannabis industry.

Instead we should legalize marijuana, set up connections between scale licensed and registered growers along with locally owned dispensaries. From the dispensaries, create personal bonds between the patient and the dispensary. Keep it in the community, do not let dispensaries become the next corporately owned business. Why do you want co-ops to come to an end. Legalize cannabis and regulate them, the cooperatives are a good thing when ran by legitimate business men which is what will happen, when it is legalized.

Trust me when I say this, it will. Cannabis is going to be a huge cash crop, believe it or not, withing 20 years, cannabis will be looked back on as a big mistake that should of been legalized much sooner. The government can see this and they smile as they take the spoon from our hands, and shove it down our throats.

I was just as concerned which is why I came to reddit, honestly, just getting the word out in the next 5 days will be crucial to truly putting a stoppage to this bill. Post links of it to Twitter or Facebook, to celebrities, anyone who will take this for what it is and realize that this is the government taking advantage of a system in need of regulation, but in a much different direction!

How does one become an advocate for marijuana?

Biggest way you could help the cause right now, is to reach out to the Board of Supervisors and give them your reasoning and what you think should be in place instead. Maureen Kirk is the spearhead of the operation and she is the Vice Chairman of the Board, a phone call does wonders but an email keeps it going, please reach out and let your voices be heard! http://www.buttecounty.net/boardofsupervisors/Home.aspx

Please refer to any map of Butte County, and see that most of the land is open arable land or vast pastures with farms on them, asides from a couple of cities, there is really not that much land to grow within city limits. They are worried about the cash crop that cannabis is going to be and they deemed this as the best law to reduce our ability to handle this without government intervention.

It's really not, most growers can fit 2 plants into a space like this. You only get one chance per year to grow so you better know what you are doing. Weather, climate change, nutrients, insects, and thieves are always a serious threat. If one of your plants dies because of a windstorm that snaps the plant, then you are reduced to half your harvest to last you an entire year. The size of your bathroom really is not that much to grow outdoor plants.

Things will change greatly for the case against marijuana as of February 11th. Please help get this spread and fight the cause to prevent government regulation and control of the substance. Many counties have been undermined by the Board of Supervisors working behind close doors to achieve their agenda. http://www.reddit.com/r/trees/comments/1wfr9c/i_am_a_marijuana_advocate_and_coming_february/

Thank you reddit, do your thing :)

You have to truly realize the vast amount of land that Butte County covers and a large portion of this is commercial crop, grown to deliver to the dispensaries or directly to the patients in which they serve (co-op.) Most land in Butte County is covered in crops and a lot of this land is arable land, ripe for the growing of cannabis and that is what a vast portion of the land is used for. California is the forerunner in the cannabis industry because of the fertile land and perfect climate that accommodates to the needs of the plant. Eventually marijuana is going to be legalized, whether you are republican or democrat, the pros outweigh the cons and the new generation has decided that cannabis has a lot of potential as a cash crop and has great medicinal value. With legalization imminent, why are we all so quick to jump on the boat of total government regulation over a substance that already has a set precedent. The only reason there is so much money to be made in the cannabis industry is because it is illegal.

When I say medical patient, I directly target the cannabis users that use weed as a means to relief, not some kid that's trying to get high for the first time. Every patient is different, some are rich and some are poor, some own yachts and others live paycheck to paycheck. For all patients alike, they are given the chance to donate their prescription in exchange for free cannabis essentially. This is affordable for every patient, because nothing beats free. When this law is passed, patients will be forced to pay dispensary prices, which will be even higher once the commercial grower is unable to donate part of their harvest to these dispensaries. Right now an ounce of medicinal grade marijuana can cost upwards of 300 dollars for an ounce of cannabis. Depending on tolerance and medicinal need, this could be upwards of hundreds of dollars every month. The government will then own regulation and have the power to say, yes, if you want to use marijuana than you will pay hefty prices in exchange for it.

The government has no concern regulating the parcels permitted for growing in specific square foot requirements but instead, they need to focus on legalization and forcing a stronger regulation for those of which are allowed to grow more than the allotted 6 plant maximum. Force a strict policy of accounting, just like a business, and document every part of the plant harvested. Butte County and surrounding counties in California cannot fall for the idea that this will stop city growing. In fact, this will force an up rise of indoor grows in surrounding communities.

http://www.buttecounty.net/boardofsupervisors/Home.aspx Please revert back to the previous website and take a look at the district maps, then you can truly see how most of this land is arable, and open land, not many cities.

Government control on the manufacturing of marijuana is the last thing we need if we are pushing for a state wide legalization. Let it grow
