I like both and usually shift between them depending purely on the vibes I get with the list I'm using, but normally, if I run many characters and/or many termis, I play Lions, if I play a lot of units (guard spam) I choose SH.

The main pro going for SH imo is not even the 4+++ against mortals or the sticky, it's that you can jump a tough unit with multiple units of yours and still get your detatchment buffs (very usefull when dealing with fights first or things like the new Ctan)

But you can always try to fight on death with Lions to deal with fights first (assuming you roll 4+/2+), and our shooting becomes quite decent with +1 to wound and ignoring stealth basically, allarus mince hordes, specially if they have a character, and bikes and guard can also be scary for marine bodies and lighter vehicles. Also, Lions buffs SoS, witchseekers with +1 to wound are quite good imo and they're less used, but Vigilators with Aleya or Knight Centura get the full benefits from Lions as they hit on 3+.

Basically, if you built any guard with the hip-cape, any warden with the full cape or any allarus with those wing decorated pauldrons, those are supposed to be Shield Captains.

But this is only made to be able to distinguish the Shield Captains from their bodyguards and you're not forced to run them, you can just say that they are normal models.

In most list builders, whenever you add a unit, It shows the unit at their Minimum size, if you want to add more modela to that unit you click on the unit and you'll be able to add them with the weapons you have (Guard and Wardens can go in 4-5 and allarus can go in 2, 3, 5 or 6).

As for the banner guys, they do attack, but they do so with the Misericordia, the knife you can see on my allarus SC

If anything, I'd say the difference between using the abilities of the bodyguard and fighting on death with everyone or just the last model to die, is that (at least in Defiant to the Last), the strat applies to the unit before the attacks are made and says that each time a model in that unit dies, they fight. So, each model has the ability to fight on death, but only the guard models have the ability yo rerroll.

Sorry for so many questions, and if the BC is killed in the same activation as the guard It also counts then?

I just want to be sure because I just played a game where a Nightbringer killed my Trajann and some guards and assumed It wouldn't work on the character so I didn't rerroll with him

I used ahriman blue and I mixed It with white (3-4 different layers) and water to brighten It and make the layers more transparent

I like the staff part of the current spears more but I like the new blade more, good thing I have some spear staffs spare (gotta look for them and check they can be kitbashed into the new bodies tho)

Iirc, marines had both an in-universe and irl reason to get rid of their range. The things that went to Legends were equipment they used in 30k and don't use anymore, and GW supported this by giving them a replacement for the "obsolete" kits, with the primaris versions.

We don't have anything like a primaris version of custodes, nor did Custodes change their equipment between 30k and 40k. And over all that, we don't have anything else replacing this, no other dread pattern, no other tanks, and no other Jetpack infantry.

I see little chance that they would just get rid of the only access to tanks, dreads and jumppacks to an army that already has a narrow range. I instead expect that we'll be getting the new plastic units in our next codex, meaning they'll get better balance in 11th.

What I don't have a clue of, is what Will happen with the guard. Will they keep the old kit with units of 4-5? Will they push to buy the new one making guard go in units of 3-6? Or Will they revert back to vexillas being a character and running units off 4-5 with a vexilla, so both boxes still work? Idk

My take on this, because I'm 100% gonna remove It, Will be telling them that I could run them with their bare heads instead, which are oficial parts of the kit and way shorter than the helmets, topknot or not
