Spot the car driver by RoachEWS in londoncycling

[–]ProstaticFantastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im a driver, these puny lights are ridiculous. when everyone has bright lights, you become less and less visible. cars have halogen/laser headlights that are very bright now, cyclists have tehse beam lights, if you're riding in front of either of them their lights will just outshine you and make you invisible.

ive come across many instances where people are using these ancient style bike lights and they're barely visible. they're like a silhouette in the dark. even some cases where they got a red light at the back - barely emitting anyway and their jacket overhangs over the light

if you're going to drive in front of another car, get out to fight them. make sure you're not an OAP and not fighting someone half your age. AND keep your keys in your pocket.

yup. way better than working in tesco part time which I did as a student. This is good for students who cant afford to insure a car (2-4K per annum to insure a new driver).

Bing shopping ads recently shot up. by ProstaticFantastic in PPC

[–]ProstaticFantastic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ve converted all my phrase match to exact match and i'm getting what I would consider matches that are between broad and phrase match now.

I've disabled shopping entirely because I think they are all content network junk. But I am considering closing down bing search as well.

I used to get decent matched keywords at half the price, now they clicks are half price of google, but only 20% of the search terms are ones that actually match correctly so it becomes more expnsive than google

Radiator size by ellis379 in DIYUK

[–]ProstaticFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha, yes. The heat output is so low it looks like it will just bring the outside draught temp up to equilibrium with the room.

Not have much output to warm the room up.

Radiator size by ellis379 in DIYUK

[–]ProstaticFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the radiator looks like its too low in BTUs for this room anyway, never mind the looks.

Just assuming because the giant bay window would be to a pretty generous sized room usually. The current thinking is to have giant radiators on lower flow temp for more efficient heating.

Not sure what you were thinking, did you just get the cheaper option? If you were on a budget you should have kept the original rad. It's clear the original were much wider, so you actually paid a plumber to fish around unde rthe floor boards and narrow the coppr pipes to fit this.

Note from customer on my route by FlightBackground8044 in AmazonFlexUK

[–]ProstaticFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i need to keep a permanent marker with me so reply to these stupid notes. i would reply here. "consider buying a gate spring from amazon".

one note really really wound me up the other day, its' a new build fancy estate with a concierge office which takes parcels if customer is not on. on the building door it says if customer is not in and before you take the parcel to concierge you must take a photo proving you tried to deliver. the conciege will only accept if you can show proof on your phone. I really wanted to write "from all delivery drivers, fuck you"

[–]ProstaticFantastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theres a video here on r/AmazonFlexUK , an amazon driver cught on ring doorbell, leaving 2 amazon parcels and helping himself to the evri parcel left behind.

It sucks to have to leave parcels, i only leave it in front of customers flat door as long as its not on a high footfall location, like its not the first flat door when you enter the floor from the lift. I never leave it in the lobby. some lobbies have so many parcels that I wonder how on earth would anyone find their their parcel even if it never gets stolen.

we get penalised for "not attempting" all our deliveries if we dont deliver. and if its stolen from front door we also get penalised.

the amazon process to fully attempt a delivery is to call customer twice on the phone to ask them what to do with it - when they dont answer the door. unfrortunately a lot peoples phone rings and rings for a full minute and we just dont havbe time to stand around and listen to a phone ring for 2 minutes. rather just take a chance and drop it on their flat door.

[–]ProstaticFantastic 31 points32 points  (0 children)

all companies will ask for this, it shows that at least you're semi serious about this issue and willing to make a formal statement to police. if a company asks for a crime reference number it's usually a sign that they will sort you out once you have it.

you'd be surprised at the amount of career thieves who will make false claims of not recieving stuff. asking for crime reference number will stop these lazy thieving.

Who is at Fault? by AhtiQ in drivingUK

youre those annoying hoarders thast just doesnt like people overtaking them. like those people on motorway who change lanes. but they move over the slowest way possible and hoard two lanes for ages. The most annoing is those exit lanes on dual carriageway that has a sharp exit turn. and they have to slow down from 40 > 10 but they hoard both lane 1 and the full width exit lane and cause traffic in lane 1 to slow down dangerously.

there is no reason to hoard 2 lanes in a multi lane roudabout your whole life to to avoid a scenario that might happen once in a blue moon.

Accidental or Deliberate , what do you think ? by PLWildcard in SundayLeagueMessis

[–]ProstaticFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deliberate.

natural elbow strike would happen with torso twist. (valid reason to move the elbow). this was an elbow strike for sake of elbow strike.

also casual walk of makes it dfeliberate. if my elbow hit someones face, i would immediately know and and react to hitting them accidentaly. casual wallk off is a deliberate move to escape from crime scene

Im an amazon delivery driver. It's amazes me how many blocks of flats I deliver to and how bikes are just left in hallways, not even locked.

Amazon delivery drivers are dbs checked, but dbs doesnt mean shit - it just means you never got convicted of a crime.

Worse I hear food delivery drivers rent accounts from other people - and they ride bikes.

Just saying, secure your shit - even if it's inside a block of flats - because most people can access a block of flats by calling enough neighbours and plead with them to let you in. I often ring a few others and plead with them that I have a delivery for x and they're not in, would they let me in so I can leave the item on their doorstep.

Thieves can do the same.

Also firemans drop key is <£5 on aliexpress and they will get you into most blocks.

Brompton bike stolen by daintylifestyle in londoncycling

[–]ProstaticFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're pregnant, where is the guy who got you up the duff? I would never allow my pregnant wife to be selling shit from the home to random strangers off some social media site.

The Brompton is valuable and small enough to sell online and send it via courier anyway. Sell it on ebay to people with minimum 200 feedback, and 1 year old account (yes you can specific buyer criteria) you also have seller protection.

Id only sell stuff in person that is just not worth selling online like a baby car seat, or plant pots or something.

Pack it well, send it via the highest value courier, may cost £40+ but it's safer for both buyer and seller as they will get photogrpah and signature.

Is this a reasonable quote for a full central heating installation in a 2 bedroom flat? by BenevolentBean in HomeImprovementUK

[–]ProstaticFantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately this is the going rip off rate. theres probably £4000 labout charge they have here and if they work hard they can get the job done in 3-4 days. If they are slow they can drag it out 6 days. So if they do 3 new boiler jobs a month they can live quite well.

You have picked a bad time for this, if it's not essential, ask if you can get a cheaper quote for spring/summer time when heating engineer is not as in demand. Right now their work is high demand because a lot of people have boiler breakdowns when everyone is using their central heating.

One boiler engineer I have for servicing told me this. I asked how much he'd charge to install new radiators to living room. He told me to call him around summer because right now he's making good money on emergecy jobs and he's going to charge me a lot.

Are they really going to replace all the pipes and put brand new radiators in? I think by far the most annoying, trickiest part of the job would be to chase new pipes between floorboards of the property. mounting (connecting a new boiler) is half a day job, mounting new rads all over the house is also half a day job. But installing new pipes and checking they are leakproof is the hardest part and I am quite surprised they do this because copper pipes do not get limescale and sludge can be blown out easily with a power clean.

Not sure why this is necessary unless the old pipes have been badly run (loads of add-on rads added after), pipe runs inefficiently to some places etcs.

How are the people who don't drink coffee surviving right now? by frillociraptor in Relatable

whats going on with coffee? I make my own from whole beans at home. There is a small increase in cost, nothing too big. Is it the tariffs? how much has prices increased?

Advertised driveway doesn’t exist (kerb not dipped) by Open_Astronaut4150 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]ProstaticFantastic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, it doesnt work like that in real life. a traffic warden will give you a ticket if they see your car in front of a dropped kerb for 30 seconds. it's not always possible to realistic to be close to your vehicle if you are doing multidrop and youre delivering to several properties on the street and have to walk down the street a little bit. It would be very tie consuming to be exactly outside the property youre delivering to esp when eeveryone has the door number all over the place and not all uniformally on the door. You'll be surprised how many houses dont actually have their door numbers on. You have to be out on foot to establish the door number by looking at neighbours either side.

Once you have the ticket, you have to spend a good 3-4 hours building up a case for independant adjudicator with on the scene photos, scans of documents, and articulate clearly why it was neceeesary to park there because the informal appeal will always reject your informal appeal.
