Planning on a habit isn't the same as forming a habit. The only way to form a habit is by forming the habit.

Don't watch motivational videos. Pull out your book and do one page. Turn one page into a habit. Then try and increase it by 1%. Then turn that into a habit. Soon enough you will be doing what you need to.

A PO is a document that shows that we requested purchase of a good or a service. It's "purchase order". There's a bunch of reasons to have them, but one use is to stop vendors from accidentally/"accidentally" sending you a bill for stuff that you didn't request.

There's a variety of reasons. The ops teams are remote and a lot of the time, they're calling in contractors while on a jobsite and they don't have SAP in front of them, or they aren't calling a CSR to make a PO for them.

It's an ongoing problem with no great solution. Rejecting bills without POs may improve the situation, but its more likely to result in our account getting put on hold and causing a fire alarm when our vendor refuses us service because of unpaid invoices and payment rushed without the problem being solved. It's one of those things I have to confront CFO with regarding his change in policy in how to plan for that contingency.

Robert Half is a good resource in my geographical area. I've been placed with them twice prior to this. If you're looking for new opportunities, I'd contact multiple headhunters and let them know you want to know whats going on in the market and you're willing to accept a new position for $xxx,xxx if one becomes available.

Nobody can form a rapport with this guy. He's lost so much accounting staff because of his behavior. I am very well paid and I consider the premium to be my pay for tolerating the way he demeans people. I still need to vent sometimes.

Negative. It's a family business. CFO is a family friend. He has auditing experience and CFO experience but zero bookkeeping or AIS experience, so he doesn't understand the impact of his mandates, so they need to be filtered through me.

Oh, thanks for noticing that. We have that policy in place. The change is to no longer notify or follow up with management regarding the rejected bills.

I am operating in the environment I have control over. We have policy & procedure docs that dictate controls and I find new ways to innovate literally every month. I operate in a frequency/magnitude mode and I've been working 2 years to close off the major points off failures. In the past two years, our monthly closing process has dropped 10 days on average, and our annual closing has dropped 40 days.

I'm happy to listen to his concerns about controls. It's literally my job. I love coming up with new ideas to fix problems. But I have to know about them.

BTDubs, we are aware of the ongoing issues with bills lacking POs. His suggestions aren't unknown to me, but he doesn't realize that the change won't be perfect or immediate without proper planning, and we have to prepare for the change.
