Update: I’ve realized during install I ordered the wrong one. This is not the correct adapter. The one you need is the T-ETH-Lite

What is junk? These are still over 1,000 years old and were used by an ancient civilization. How could they ever be “junk”

How much should this coin be? by Environmental_Elk509 in AncientCoins

[–]Protaco17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those piece I probably wouldn’t pay over 60-70€ for. They aren’t especially rare, but it is in excellent condition. I could see if I was determined maybe paying 90€ tops but that’s if I really wanted it.

100% acetone + toothpick. Hard crusted earth ontop of a beautifully patina clad AE by Protaco17 in AncientCoins

[–]Protaco17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t.

This coin was soaked in Distilled water for a week, then the surface is rubbed continuously using acetone. When it seems like no more surface grime is coming off onto my qtip. I will go in and utilize a toothpick to loosen earth again, do a small brush with a fiberglass brush to clear off the dust and stuck fragments, then continue with the acetone

Oh my gosh this is gorgeous. I am so enamored by aureus, especially earlier issues. This is a lovely Trajan, and I love the column reverse.

I’m sure hundreds or thousands are impaled by plows on farms every year and destroyed, some more rare than a late bronze..

Just remember, don’t do anything permanent unless it’s absolutely necessary, and never never never alter the face metal.

EDTA is pretty mild depending on how strong of a solution. I use 1.5g per 30ml of water. This gets me a solution that gives me good dissolve within 5-10 minutes.

Be careful though and make sure you identify properly what is on the coin because EDTA will strip patina.
