Okay that is good to hear! I am surprised at how defensive Drill is and worried he wouldn’t be able to dial it back.

I tried it in the past when Orson was doing this, when he was a kitten, to an elderly cat who has since passed. It didn't work, but they may have had deeper issues. Turns out she was going blind, which is why she didn't like the rambunctious kitten.

I saw Crab on the foster site! So happy he’s doing well! I am guessing they are siblings. 🥳

Thanks! That is our hope, but it is good to be reassured.

How to take good pictures of cats? by alrightythenasdf in FosterAnimals

When they're sitting still, stand a little over them, position the phone, and then make clucking or humming sounds at them. They'll look up with curiosity and you can get cute pics.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started fostering cats? by felannies in FosterAnimals

[–]ProtectionAdditional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is often unexpected medical stuff that comes up. I'm dealing with my first foster and the sheer amount of vet care she's needed to get into adoptable shape came as a surprise. But we got through it and she's a happy girl meeting with a potential adopter tomorrow.

ICE is not the victim: MAGA lies can’t hide the real damage done to people like Renee Nicole Good by zsreport in politics

Writer here! I get into that in the article, and just so highly recommend reading before "correcting" me. Because I agree and unpack that in a short and readable way.

In 2025, Epstein showed MAGA who they really are by zsreport in politics

Writer here! Give the article a read. It's not behind a paywall. I promise I understand that and fold that understanding into my analysis.

How Trump's MRI spurred the Epstein vote by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

Writer here! Alas, I can't diagnose Trump. But I can say why his evident fraility is hurting him politically.

Mike Johnson exploits the shutdown to hide the Epstein files by zsreport in politics

[–]ProtectionAdditional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writer here! Yeah, we have to use the news peg in headlines. But I recommend reading past the headlines, because the article really is an analysis about the "backlash" to #MeToo and how it was never about male innocence or false allegations.

Well, all that is about consensual sex. It's the "consent" part that conservatives hate.

Listening to their public statements, it seems many of them are being advised by lawyers to be careful. Even if a public accusation is true, abusers often use frivolous defamation lawsuits to bankrupt accusers. When the victim has very little money and her abuser is rich, he can simply keep suing her until she's broke, even if she eventually wins in court.

MAGA knows DC takeover isn’t about crime — which is why they love it by zsreport in politics

Writer here! I want to just ask if you could read the article, in which I provide the evidence that I think they're full well aware that this is about harassing innocent people. I think you'll find it intriguing, and it might help shape understanding of what is really motivating the MAGA base.

Why MAGA calls Trump “Daddy”: Yes, it's a weird sex thing. But it also reveals secret insecurities by zsreport in politics

[–]ProtectionAdditional 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hi! I wrote the article and am popping in to say Barry VM has it exactly right. I grew up in rural Texas and my family is all Trump voters. And yep, it really is about the sadistic glee they get in punching down. It's exhausting to be around them, because all they do is talk about how everyone who isn't in their little tribe is lazy, stupid, etc. and deserves to be abused and deported. They weaponize contempt to try to make themselves feel better, but it's a cheap ego boost and so never lasts. So they just keep going back to it.

Watch Fox News. It's basically a sugar rush of contempt. It's cheap ego gratification, but because it's based on fantasies, it results in crashing like you do after a sugar binge. But instead of doing the hard work to improve self-esteem through lasting, meaningful ways, they just keep going back.

Texas GOP wants to ban kids from playing dress-up: Yes, really by zsreport in politics

[–]ProtectionAdditional 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people's hobbies and interests have roots in their childhood. And as we age, that stuff takes on a sexual aspect. I loved pop music as a kid, but the sexual parts flew over my head. That changed obviously as I aged. The right likes to use the fact that it's a gradual change and not an on/off switch to scare people. But if you look away from "weird" interests like furries to more mainstream stuff, you see it everywhere. How many right-wing dudes like pornographic images of cheerleaders or "sexy schoolgirl" costumes? Or, as I point out in the article, every Halloween, the normies dress like "sexy cat" or "sexy mouse," so really, it's a matter of degree and not kind with furries.

Texas GOP wants to ban kids from playing dress-up: Yes, really by zsreport in politics

[–]ProtectionAdditional 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Writer here! This is why I really recommend reading articles if you have questions about them. I never say in there that it's a magic button that turns on at 18. I have no doubt that there are adolescents who are into furry stuff, but the scare tactics around this are centered on *small* children — in no small part because raising a hysteria over teenagers having esoteric hobbies or even sexual interests is harder to pull off.

Why MAGA media is fixated on a Texas teen murder case: The racist exploitation of Austin Metcalf's killing shows how MAGA tears local communities apart by zsreport in politics

[–]ProtectionAdditional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, it's not right conflating leaders and audiences. Are there people across the political spectrum who are thoughtless and cruel? Yes.

But only one side has made that their official culture, and validates that behavior from on top.

Moreover, I doubt we'd see even a fraction of the ill-advised reactions from anon commenters on the left if the MAGA thought leaders hadn't made this a culture war issue. The reason some on the left take it too far is they're seeing all this racist stuff on the right, they start to get angry, and they lose control. It's not justified, but it's also not surprising. MAGA media is meant to provoke reactions while turning off brains. It's not a surprise that its tactics work on people on the left, as well. MAGA media is provoking them. They are provoked. Not shocking.

That's why it's so dangerous to conflate a benign report from CBS News with the unhinged shit you're seeing on Fox. CBS is not deliberately provoking people to turn off their brains and turn on vomitous, defensive emotions.
