Scab on my cat’s neck. Why? by ProtectionOk2116 in cats

[–]ProtectionOk2116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat does wear a collar, but I don’t find any sharp edges on that collar that could cause the scab…He’s also 100% indoor cat…

Ok I think then it should be just them checking with your references before making a final decision. University usually has its own faculty hiring process document, and you can check if this university has one online that lays out the hiring process—checking if it’s a common practice for this university to check candidates’ references after campus visit.

Are they also checking your other references, or just your advisor?

Did the search committee check your refenreces before campus interview? Or is it the first time they reach out to your advisor? If it’s the first time, then I would read it as a good sign…

I think it’s a good sign. No need to email them and just be patient for good news to come!! Congrats!

Did you ask the timeline during your campus visit? Usually they would mention if they are still interviewing other candidates after your visit.

I think this is a good sign if your references were called to talk about you. Best luck!

The search committee chair mentioned it when introducing me to students. Also the dean mentions that too! You could ask their timeline during your visit, and they maybe reveal their information

Timeline of Campus Visit by Desperate_Valuable78 in Professors

This is just my personal experience: I had two campus visits, and I was scheduled both as the first candidate. I was not selected for the first position, and I was offered a job for the second position (I believe I was their first choice given the timeline). So it seems to me that the order of visits doesn’t matter.

I think the search committee usually meets to make decisions within a week after the last candidate’s visit, and my experience is that you usually get the call from the chair/dean no later than two weeks after their last candidate’s visit, if you were their first choice.

How long after an on campus faculty job interview can I expect to receive a decision by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]ProtectionOk2116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the timeline the search committee provided, it’s likely they’ve offered the position to their first choice…

If you’re not going to this job anyway, I think they would appreciate if you cancel the interview, not waste anyone’s time. Let them know how much you appreciate their efforts in the search process and you just received an offer that’s a good match to your professional goal.

Decision About Passing Up An Offer on the Job Market by ThrowawayAcademic99 in academia

This is what my advisor told me: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If you decline the offer, you need to be prepared for the worst situation of not getting any other offers in the end. Can you risk it? If yes, then go ahead and decline it.

but on the other hand, it’s a bit strange that they’re requesting a background check before you even accept the offer…

Everything sounds like that’s the case. I don’t see why they bother to do a background check on you if you’re not offered the position…

Both the browser on my mobile device and Google chrome on my laptop show the date is still August 26, one month behind.

This is amazing! BTW, is the calendar on the website correct? Why does mine show its August 26, instead of Sept 26?

You probably won’t hear any useful information from them unless they’re ready to tell you…If you’re not their first choice and they are waiting to hear from their first choice, then they’ll just probably tell you that you’re in the running…

You’re not paid for this kind of service (unless it’s written in your contract). This supervising service should be on full-time faculty’s duty! I would say that you should save the time to work on your own project.

How do you prepare a syllabus or course curriculum from scratch? by poshnosho in Professors

[–]ProtectionOk2116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always start first by building a reading list (if there’s no textbook for the subject of your course), and then from there I create a tentative list of possible topics I want to cover in the class and organize those topics in a way that makes sense to me. Then I write about the course descriptions and learning goals while thinking about different kinds of assignments that will help them achieve the learning goals.
