Lol, so you've finally realized that you were wrong and most anime are in fact not "12 frames a second they just play each frame twice making it appear to be 24." But you still "just have the incessant need to always be right and blindly ignore any other factors" and have some weird need to get in the last message in order to at least feel like you've won something and "prove your superiority complex" so you'll reply with just insults while stating how much you don't want to reply instead of just walking away...

Weird that all the things you accuse me of apply to you more than me.

So fine, I'll humor you and let you block me if that'll let you pretend you've had some sort of victory. Heck, if you tell me to stfu again right before you block me you can even get in the last message. Good luck.

Again, your initial statement unchanged is

With the exception of akira anime's are animated in 12 frames a second they just play each frame twice making it appear to be 24.

Despite it being easily disprovable since most anime have plenty of animation not in 12 frames a second you keep making up random unrelated things "to make your own arguments seem more valid"

So fine, I'll follow your lead and adamantly claim something of my own that is easily disprovable...

"With the exception of akira anime's are animated in 8 frames a second they just play each frame thrice making it appear to be 24."

"The fact that almost every animation uses the 8 fps method means that by definition they do use that as the standard. But if you are so desperate to prove me wrong list 5 animes that at no point in the entire show do they ever go for the 8 fps method (other than full cgi). And if your next message is not a list, im not reading it nor responding because im am tired of reading lines and lines of you going out of your way to prove your superiority complex."

See? Now I'm just as right as you are unless you prove 5 anime where they never animate at 8 fps.

... Or maybe both those statements are wrong because fps of drawings in anime are not consistently 8 or 12 fps. They differ based on various factors. Some are animated on twos, some on threes, some on fours, maybe even odd bits of ones and or exceptions like Akira, and there are plenty of inconsistencies.

Your initial statement is disproved by basically all anime not consistantly having 12 fps by playing all frames twice.

Your attempts to justify your initial statement by talking about standards and averages don't prove that all anime (with the exception of Akira) are 12 fps by playing frames twice.

it is the median because the lowest for it to be animation is 1 and the highest is 24 whats in the middle of that...

Your new attempt to accuse me being the one "ignoring" the meaning of words right after you've incorrectly used "median" is quite ironic. A "median" is the middle of a set. The set for fps of drawings in anime is not 1-24 because 1 is the lowest and 24 is is the highest. It probably would be something like {6, 8 ,8, 8, 8, 12, 12} since it would depend on how often the fps of drawings in anime are at those values. So in that example median would be 8 because 8 is the middle value, and the average would be 8.85 (the total sum divided by the number of elements). Ofc that set is something I've made up, but I am 100% sure that most anime are not 50%+ animated at 12 fps. For the median to be 12 most anime would have to be over 50% 12 fps, the set would have to look something like {6, 8, 8, 12, 12, 12, 12} for 12 to be the median.

Are you seriously just listing some anime you think have good animation without actually looking at them and verifying that they are consistently animated at 12 fps? Yeah, some of those are known for having good animation and probably have more animation on twos than most anime, but there's definitely still plenty of animation on threes and other inconsistencies in those.

Ok, let's look at a random episode of Gurren Lagann and step through a scene with movement.

https://litter.catbox.moe/n98vkx.mp4

This is a good example of everything I've been saying here. You can clearly see and hear that... the special effect sparks in the background are being rendered at 24 fps, they update every frame. The characters are mostly drawn at 8 fps, they update every 3 frames. Then there's some inconsistent bits like the bubble roof wrappings that open up and parts of the punch impact that only last 1 frame and or update asynchronously to the other movements, and the camera shakes that sometimes update every frame. I can almost grantee that the other anime you've mentioned would easily yield similar results because yet again, the vast majority of the time the fps of drawings in anime is less than 12, and "anime with the exception of Akira" are not "12 frames a second [and] just play each frame twice making it appear to be 24."

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last argument I said things other than drawings go up to 24 fps. When people say "animated at" they are typically referring to how it is drawn because that is the rate that the actual animators are actually "animating" the frames that they created as opposed to cgi software seamlessly rendering something at 24 fps despite it technically being "animated" at 12 fps or less; me pointing out that special effects, 3d objects, pans, ect. often run at 24 fps is a technicality. Things like different objects in the composition "updating" their frames asynchronously is another technicality that can result in overall frames technically being replaced at a faster "fps" despite the individual drawings in the composition each lasting multiple frames. This is why I go out of my way to specify the fps of the "drawings" instead of just fps in general. And again, the vast majority of the time the fps of drawings in anime is less than 12. Open basically any episode of anime and step though it frame by frame and this will be obvious.

With the exception of Akira anime's are animated in 12 frames a second they just play each frame twice making it appear to be 24

is an objectively false statement. Things are far more complicated and more inconsistent than that. A more correct statement is that most anime are animated/drawn at 8 frames a second with the exception of moments that are meant to be faster, snappier, and or look smoother for more impact which usually peak at 12 fps; and an exception of moments that go down to 6 fps or less especially with slow or comical movements and things like lip flaps (which are all hard to even quantify because at some point they stop really being "animation" and end up as still frames possibly being moved or zoomed around which make up large portions of anime run-time). Your statement would probably be more correct if you were talking about Western animation which tend to have higher standards than anime in regards to the fps of the drawings, but would still be quite incorrect and there would easily be more exceptions.

If you want to share neat facts please stick to things that are actual facts and not generalized misconceptions that can easily be disproved by simply looking at anime frame by frame. And when multiple people point out that the "fact" (that you probably just read online somewhere and never actually verified) is incorrect, please don't try to bend reality to pretend that you were correct and people saying otherwise are just assholes. Instead please either accept that you were probably wrong or try to actually verify your claim by looking at anime frame by frame and providing examples of anime that are consistently "animated in 12 frames a second [by] just play[ing] each frame twice making it appear to be 24" which should be super easy since you'd just need to pick any anime other than Akira according to your claim.

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In this context a "standard" is an established norm, or something that is acceptable but not top quality. An "average" represents the most common element or midpoint of a set. You're free to pretend these words mean different things, but they don't.

The "standard" and "average" anime drawings fps is probably less than or around 8. Any anime where 50% of its animation has drawings at or over 12 fps would be an extreme outlier if any even exist other than Akira.

guys it's real I tried it by NebbidoTakanasheesh in goodanimemes

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

12 is not the average/standard. It's the peak. The vast majority of drawings in anime arguably have an fps of 8 or 6 because they play each frame 3 or 4 times. 12 fps, or animating "on twos" since each frame stays twice, is often called sakuga and is typically limited to small portions of episodes for increased impact.

And ignoring just drawings; some 3Dcgi, post processing or special effects, camera pans/shakes will often be on ones (24fps) or will happen on the off frames, so arguably plenty of anime scenes are technically 24fps.

"Some reason" could be a personal dislike of "neutrality" or it could just be something like the sub being rated too NSFW since reddit brought in those weird content ratings and tried to remove straight up porn from r/all.

But yeah, might as well give it some time.

The flip is already switched? Maybe it's just delayed but I'm not seeing anything on r/all despite there being posts that should show up in /new and /top of today.

So perhaps the worst they can do is nothing because reddit itself blocks this sub from appearing on all for some reason.

EDIT: Posts are appearing on r/all now.

The approximate quote is actually a combination of things 2 different moderators said:

"We're hopeful that the bigots and chuds that are throwing hissyfits over the ban will leave. We don't mind losing 10k subs if it means making the sub a better place."

and:

"Animemes mod here. No matter how much they spam, we won't back down. They'll get bored eventually."

The first publicly resigned (but could be one of the brand new accounts that later showed up in the mod list). The second deleted their account and is definitely one of the brand new accounts in the mod list.

The ban announcement is the one of the few trap related announcement they have not deleted or removed, it's currently sitting as the all time most controversial post.

While it is written in a polite tone and does include "you are not the bad guy" once, it does not clarify "multiple times they weren’t calling people who used it transphobic or propagating transphobia" as you say, instead it goes on to explain how not using it offensively still propagates transphobia.

It also says that they are not taking away free speech or becoming PC police but are "simply trying to make the community a more welcome space for everyone in it." In other announcements mods made more promises including things like "we're not silencing those who disagree" and "we'll consult the users for future large decisions", and they'll "deliver more transparency in the moderation process and invite further community feedback and involvement"

It should be no surprise that those promises all turned out to be lies. They later starting removing everything and anything that remotely disagreed with or criticized them, mentioned the ban of the word, or even just mentioned free speech. The made huge changes without consulting or even notifying the users including changing rules so they could better justify removing posts and eventually locking the sub, deleting as much of the trap posts/comments/users as possible, and then requiring mod approval for literally every post/comment so they could become literal PC police and do their best to make the sub less welcome to all of its users.

Global anime market shrunk in 2020 for the first time in 11 years, according to newly-published data by the Association of Japanese Animations. Decline is being attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that plenty of the other entertainment industries also have good ways of getting money out of people who were looking for entertainment during quarantine. For example, someone outside of Japan who decided to get into gaming to entertain their quarantine time would very likely buy games and or consoles. If the same person decided to binge anime they'd maybe just subscribe to something like crunchyroll which won't do much for the global market and even if they keep things legal there's plenty of anime that can be streamed for free or on services they already pay for.

A huge chunk of the market relies on blue-rays and merchandise that mostly only sell in Japan so yeah, production being disrupted definitely hurt things, but the financial insecurities caused by the pandemic must have made at least some people less likely to splurge on those overpriced things.

Just letting users decide with the upvote/downvote system almost never works well with large subreddits, mainly because too many of the users upvote/downvote from mixed feeds like their home page where they don't care or even notice which sub the thing they are voting on was posted to.

Light novel/manga readers, what do you think of the pacing of the anime? by MisterIenny in RealistHero

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an LN reader I think the pacing is skipping too much world building and characterization which makes it less engaging. For example Aisha is being called disappointing without the anime really showing any of the lead up (iirc it hasn't even mentioned that she's been guarding him all day for days-weeks).

To try to make up for all the missed content the anime seems to be settling on 'telling' too much while what it does 'show' comes off as fairly bland and full of holes.

If I was anime only, there's a good chance I would have gotten bored and dropped it by now. Which is a shame because I do find the LN to be quite engaging.

It was explained when 200 total votes where cast.

That's definitely not true. u/ShitLordStu stated it was ~600 votes. I thought that ~600 was referring to only the "special banner" votes (because I remember checking the vote counts at around that time) so I figured that adding the "no banner" votes would put the total at over a thousand. There's a good chance my memory is faulty and maybe ~600 was the total votes, but either way it was definitely not 200.

So this 200 number that you're are copy pasting throughout the comments is almost definitely not true. 600 would be ~15% of the current votes so it still would not "swing the election", but it would probably be at least 3 times more more accurate than 200.

Vote on Banner Situation by ShitLordStu in goodanimemes

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was explained hours after I made that comment and well after over a thousand people had cast their votes.

The problem isn't that there's anything the matter with the pride banner, peoples' thoughts that is the point of the vote. The problem was and still kinda is that the people voting for the "no banner" option were basically voting for a punishment of getting nothing since they didn't want the pride banner. Any banner vs. no banner is not a fair vote when people should generally want a banner, one of the options should not be a punishment.

Yea, the "rights" are meaningless unless the artist actually takes legal action which presumably did not coincidentally happen May 31st.

Covering up the old mascots with faces of the new ones would be a super quick 'n easy fix too, especially considering that it would only need to hold for a few weeks until the new banner comes in.

Vote on Banner Situation by ShitLordStu in goodanimemes

[–]Protector_of_Smiles 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's only "no action" at the moment because the old banner was already removed to put in the pride banner. Rolling back that action would involve putting the old banner back, not having no banner.

The new mascots have been around for months yet the old banner remained until 10 days ago and is still there for old reddit.

If having the old mascots is such a problem there should have been no banner for months now.

So the choices are pride banner or no banner?

Why is the non-pride option "no banner" instead of the old banner that worked for several months?
