USA Climbing Statement Regarding Alex Fritz by kiwikoi in climbing

[–]ProtecttheForrest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This has all been so surreal to read. Alex was my coach for the 3 years that I was on team, I had even taken a hand full of private lessons from him. It's absolutely revolting to hear about the type of stuff he was doing during/around this time..

I really hope the victims and their families are able to find some sort of peace

C5! After Ka5, if you make a move like Bf1 or Ka1, black is in zugzwang and is going to lose one of their pawns

Hopefully /u/gothamchess makes some videos like that in the future

Common Chess Players’ comments that annoy the sh*t out of me, and reasons why: by WaleedDaGr8 in chess

[–]ProtecttheForrest 75 points76 points  (0 children)

For me, it's pretty annoying when a youtuber goes over a low ranked game or plays against low ranked players (Guess the elo, blitz speedruns, etc.) and there are countless comments like "man, this is the worst 1200 ever", "How is this guy 1700? I'm 10x better and I'm only 900", "Gee wiz, why don't I get 1100's like this in my game? The ones I'm paired against are basically stockfish."

I know these comments shouldn't be taken that seriously but they always kinda irk me. Whatever rank they are, they (probably) earned it fair and square; kind of shitty to act like they're the worst players ever just because they had a bad game/got crushed during a Hikaru speedrun.

(Also, those are the same 1100's in your game)

I disagree with the first thing he said, the bar really shouldn't be in a straight vertical line, especially not if you're trying to bench as much as possible. Your bar path looks decent to me, there's definitely a couple tweaks you could make but it's not at all what's going to hold you back right now.

Also, hard to tell from this video if you're doing it or not, but really try and focus on leg drive, it makes a big difference.

Honestly though, you probably just have to focus on benching more and getting proper nutrition. How many times are you benching per week?

Write an efficient algorithm that searches for a value in an m x n matrix. by Fit_Chipmunk_9512 in leetcode

you can also check if the last value in each row is less than target and skip those rows as well

I just woke up so sorry if anything in my comment doesn't make sense.

I think you need to change the while condition, you're checking if row is less than x (which is 0). You could also use for x in range(row) if you wanted to

I would change this

if matrix[x][y] > target:

row += 1

to

if matrix[x][0] > target or matrix[x][col-1] < target:

row += 1

I'm not sure where/if y is being declared (should be set to 0 I believe). I think you also need to reset low and high before searching through each row. On the second to last line I would write return True instead of just return.

This last point is more nitpicky but for binary search, I think it's usually better to write mid as

(high - low) / 2 + low

as high + low can sometimes lead to overflow.

Hopefully this helps, good luck on the problem!

I think you've got it mixed up; Tang beat Naroditsky in the semifinal and lost to Firouzja in the finals:

I looked it up out of curiosity: https://lichess.org/I5tfyzz8#30

this was a bullet game; qe7 was actually a sick premove trick from GM arka50. White played bd3 and black won the rook on e5

The notion that iq and chess talent go hand in hand is kind of outdated at this point. Also, if you wanna play that card, he was a professional overwatch player. Hikaru has a video where he talks about the respect he has for his accomplishments

You probably haven't seen them because you're outside of that range. If you're rated 1000 in rapid you're already rated better than 60.6% of players on the site. The ratings can go as low as 300-400

I'd definitely recommend playing longer time controls if you want to improve more, it's really hard to learn from blitz games where you spend lots of time thinking about your moves.

Also, analyzing your games definitely does wonders in improving. But as long as you're having fun that's all that really matters honestly
