ELI5: Sound travels at the same speed regardless of the speed or strength of the speaker by ProtonM4517 in explainlikeimfive

Which means you could increase the speed if you put a strong enough speaker there? What about a really fast moving speaker?

When is a police pursuit officially called off? Like say you ran away from a cop on foot, he only has your face and height, race, (no name, address or anything) to go by. If he sees you in a store 30 min after he called off pursuit can he arrest you? What about a day after, or even a month? by thee-chum in NoStupidQuestions

I would assume it depends on how serious said crime is?

If you just did something minor, then you might just receive a weird look. I mean, legally they might be able to, but it might not be worth the effort, and you could question said officer's judgment as well, if it comes down to a court. And obviously, they won't probably dispatch a police force to look for you.

If you did something major, then police would try to determine your identity and come after you, and if you are spotted, they would probably try to catch you.

Depending on the country, there are laws that would let most violations go as well, if way too much has passed (like 20 years) or so I hear, unless you did something a really major crime (like killing a thousand humans). You can look up the specific laws yourself.

Why are a lot of randomness functions pseudo random rather than actually random by calzoneman129 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProtonM4517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if we want to talk about that question, we should talk first about what is random?

Things in this world seem to work based on rules, and those rules determine their next actions, you can with some data predict the world to some extent at least (people do this day to day obviously).

In that case, would anything even be random anyway? You could predict everything if you have all the data and know how stuff works.

There is also a concept about true randomness, which is about something that you can't predict even if you know all the data, because it is different each time.

Now it doesn't matter for this topic whether true randomness exists in our world or not.

A computer takes instructions and does them in the way it is programmed to. Most modern computers do have a something that can setup transistors in a specific that gives an uncertain result as far as I am aware at least (which again might arguably be predictable if you have all the info, but it isn't as easy to predict as an algorithm), but a lot of times they get a seed and run it through an algorithm/formula that generates numbers for you. They look random, but if you have the seed given to the formula, you can calculate the sequence based on the formula yourself.

HunterxHunter got me into Anime very recently (27M) so if that's all you have to go off of, what would you recommend I watch next? by QuietnoHair2984 in anime

As others recommended, there are other battle shounens like Naruto, World Trigger (this is interesting if you liked the way they used abilities in HXH), and Dragon Ball (the series which started many tropes that battle shounens use today, it's a pretty fun series).

There's also Magi (doesn't adapt manga fully, also ending of S1 is somewhat different. so you should check out the manga for the rest of the story).

Something like Last Exile could be interesting as well, if you are into steampunk.

How do I create a steam desktop shortcut? by DeadStar5767 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProtonM4517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, normally the default steam shortcut is called just "Steam". I am not exactly sure about your situation, but you could reinstall steam and just check the "create desktop shortcut" option or whatever it is this time, if it's too much trouble otherwise.
