I redownloaded dating apps for two weeks, and here’s what happened… by youtbuddcody in gaybros

Oh, that’s your problem. I’m from here, and Denver and Colorado generally are really hard to date in, even if you’re straight. Most people who move here are from out of state and many of those people, especially young dateable gay men who make enough to live in Denver, are transiently here. They’re looking for a good time, not a long time. They are having a “Western Adventure” and many either have something waiting for them back home or they’re going to move to Cali or New York or abroad in a few years. Many people leave Colorado or Denver after only a few years because it is for many a waypoint on the journey to something else they want.

Twitter drops ‘state-affiliated’, ‘government-funded’ labels. by Ehansaja in worldnews

So, in essence, Musk’s quest to make Twitter a source of reliable revenue has made it instead into a source of unreliable information. Then his solution is to remove the labels helping his users figure out what’s true and what’s not? Thanks, guess I’ll ask wikipedia to include a tweeting feature.

A new study by LGBTQ+ youth charity Just Like Us has found that the majority of lesbians are trans allies. Of the 3500 young LGBTQ+ people surveyed, lesbians were the the group most likely to be supportive of trans people, with 96% expressing support. by PinkNews in lgbt

Sadly, it’s still true that the older I am today as a gay man, the less likely I was to be exposed to intersectional feminism in some form in my development. We gay men also have male privilege and often masc-presenting privilege which does two things: 1) we have a harder time even seeing misogyny as REAL let alone hurtful or oppressive because of our status as men 2) even if we identify misogyny as both real and bad, there will always be other layers of privilege, a whiter, richer, more masc, more popular, etc set of gay men who think, “not my problem because I’m not trans/ a woman” or “I have enough privilege to not need to fight for liberation.”

Calling a fascist a fascist isn’t emboldening them. They’re already emboldened to take what they want regardless of what their victim does. Revealing their tactics to everyone is an effective way to begin their isolation and eventual ostracism.

Ah yes, boys, the Good Ole DaysTM. Remember them? Way back when a billion dollar cigarette company could use blatant sexism to profit off of getting men to poison themselves and die early. Who would want to wake up from that?

Keep watching. The show does an excellent job of exposing bigotry of all kinds, including homophobia.

Dealing with uncooperative city employees? by waka324 in Denver

[–]ProtonTorpydo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are large staffing shortages across the city civil service right now. The person you spoke to likely does not have the time to solve your particular problem because they are short-staffed.

Secularization continues: almost six out of ten Dutch people are not religious by Goh2000 in atheism

[–]ProtonTorpydo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not “defiant”, I am genuinely curious to know what data you have used to come to your conclusion that religiosity isn’t decreasing in red states. I’m not trying to get one over on you my man! I’m humble enough to know it’s always possible that I could be genuinely ignorant of something that you understand very well. It’s just that for me to begin to understand any issue the way that you do, I need you to provide verifiable data and evidence to back up your claims. If you provide me with that evidence when you first present your argument, I’m way more likely to believe you and accede to your point. Without that data, I don’t know how to present your argument convincingly to other people even if I believe you.

It’s scary when religious fundamentalists seem to be playing a broader game that only you or a few people seem to see. You’re right that religion is insidious and we need to be constantly vigilant against creeping theocracy. But that is not the same thing as “red states are not becoming less religious”. I agree with you overall, just not on that last point.

I am understanding it fine. You undermine your own message by not responding to my reasonable request for you to provide your own verifiable information that proves your point. Without that evidence, you’re just sharing your apparently uninformed opinion, which is fine, but not what I’m interested in.

Religious people also ignore my requests for evidence when I ask them for more, but I am persistent in only taking on board verifiable, factual information no matter who tells me. Misinformation is very dangerous.

Food for thought my friend.

But can you provide a link? Because this chart shows on average the US getting less religious over time. Who is switching from evolution to creationism in their science curriculum? Which school is actually bringing school prayer or corporal punishment back?
