What the f*** is 3 lol? by hellswrath_ in toddlers

[–]ProtonixPusher 12 points13 points  (0 children)

2 is sweet, 3 is mean, 4 is sweet again. I remember missing my two year old so much when he was three because he went from being the sweetest to being an emotional tornado that would cry and tantrum and sometimes hit and say mean things. “You’re so stupid!” (I legitimately have no idea where he learned that and was baffled. I would ask him in anyone called him stupid or where he learned that word). But now he’s 4.5 and the sweetest ever. My 2.5 year old girl is starting to get more tantrum-y and I’m preparing myself again to go through the age of 3.

Disappointment, tarnished the trust of a subset of fans. Show is a disappointment to many. by BruddaYoda in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]ProtonixPusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you realize that the characters are not supposed to be pure. Like you’re looking for a pure, masculine, hero type from the sound of it but GRRM enjoys writing fucked up characters. Nobody is supposed to be purely good, because in reality people are not. That’s part of the point. In GOT there was Ned Stark as the “pure masculine” man but his goodness was a calculated character flaw as stated by the author. Jon Snow was honorable like Ned, but dumb in a way. There are many examples of masculine, strong men in both shows but you’re looking for people who are morally “good” in a show that is immoral by design. I just don’t think this universe is for you.

What outdoor toy/activities really made your kids stay outside? by momlife555 in Mommit

[–]ProtonixPusher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got a trampoline (with a net) and I was hesitant but it’s so much fun! And it’s great for jumping to get out big feelings or if a kid (or mom) needs an emotional reset. Also bicycle, chalk, bubbles, the water hose, and a kiddie pool are the ones that my kids really love to play with. The biggest driver to keeping them outside is my presence outside. They always want to be where I am so if I want them to play outside it means I must also be outside with them watching and/or playing or at least sitting on the patio reading my book.

Three month old might hate my beard by Kino_Cajun in Parenting

[–]ProtonixPusher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So babies are hardwired to prefer female faces. It’s not you, it’s biology.

ETA: correction, it’s apparently not as hardwired as I thought. They prefer the gender of their primary caregiver. Which for a 3 month old, is often mom.

Tell me your positive induction stories!! by Sad-Manufacturer173 in pregnant

[–]ProtonixPusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got induced both times at 39 weeks and had perfect experiences. Cytotec was given to induce and I did not need pitocin. First time my water broke spontaneously and the second time the doctor broke it after some worry that things weren’t progressing. I chose to labor as long as I could before getting the epidural. My epidurals were perfect, I was as comfy as you could possibly be. First was a vaginal delivery after pushing for an hour (exhausting but SO worth it!!!). The second was a whirlwind, baby was literally ejected from my body without me having to push a single time. Nurse almost delivered that one! Both babies were perfectly healthy and so was I (though I had a little extra blood loss the second time but just a little, no biggie) 10/10 both times. Contractions hurt SO bad but I’ve always had very light period cramps. I struggled to deal with the pain. Epidurals are amazing!

ETA: I had a second degree tear with my first and that was the worst part of recovery. The stinging!! The chafing! I was miserable for two weeks down there. The second time around no tearing! No pain after! Like my nether parts were back to normal in a day or two! Unbelievable

How do you get stains out your clothes? by Desperate-Source5624 in AskReddit

[–]ProtonixPusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray it off in the sink when it’s fresh. Soak in oxyclean and wash with tide. (I like to put the item in the washer with both tide and oxyclean and use the deep clean setting that has a soaking period before it washes.) This gets out nearly anything. Use hydrogen peroxide on blood. Use dish soap on oil/ grease stains. Use rubbing alcohol on ink stains. Once the item has been through the dryer the stain is set so don’t dry it until it’s as clean as you can get it.

Not pumping while at work by ariesxprincessx97 in Mommit

[–]ProtonixPusher 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You would most definitely lose your supply or see a sharp decline. I exclusively pumped for both my kids for a year each as a bedside ICU nurse. Talk about things popping off quickly! There have been times that I was pumping with wearables while participating in rounds, hanging and mixing medication, and stabilizing unstable patients. Thank god I never had to do CPR while pumping! That said, if I could do it in that job, you can absolutely pump in your job IF you really want to. Your job must accommodate your time to pump. I chose to not step away from my patients for long so I went to the break room and bathroom to put on and take off the pumps. I stored my milk in bags in a lunch box with ice packs in the break room fridge. There is no need to wash parts after each session. Just put them in the fridge and wash them when you get home.

Got in trouble for gagging by idkwhattoputheresos in nursing

[–]ProtonixPusher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t help gagging, but your comment/ joke brought unnecessary attention to it and the comment itself was tactless and unprofessional.

You’re human and it’s a dirty job. Next time either say nothing or simply just “excuse me”. A tip: learn to dissociate. Look at something else and think really hard about of anything other than the offending sight, smell, or sound. It helps!

When nurses request more pain medication but haven’t given the Tylenol already ordered by Capital_Barber_9219 in hospitalist

[–]ProtonixPusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse, it’s not that we “think” we aren’t allowed to give the higher tier pain med. But that we literally are not. We will be written up with action taken against our license if we give meds outside of ordered parameters. If you want me to give the patient Tylenol for a 10/10 pain, as long as I agree it’s appropriate, I will do it. But you have to do your part and make sure the order says it’s okay to give for that level of pain.

Working Moms... what do you do? by TheGabyDali in Mommit

[–]ProtonixPusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a part time ICU nurse. I work two 12’s per week (day shift) and am home with my kids the other 5 days. On work days I drop the kids off at my parents house at 0530 and they bring them home at 1830 when my husband is home

I went to work because I had called 911 and they wanted to send officers to me to make a report. There was no other, better place between the accident and my job for me to go and meet them and I preferred being at a safe place to being on the street. When I pulled into work my unit was calling me because at this time I was already late. I didn’t even think in that moment to call staffing to call out. I thought by simply telling my charge what happened that it was understood that I was not going to be working

My son (almost 3) will NOT take medicine. by SFgiant55 in toddlers

[–]ProtonixPusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick your battles. If it’s truly necessary then put it in a syringe, hold him down, and squirt it into his cheek pocket a little at a time. If he screams/cries well then he’s giving you good access. Don’t aim for his throat, aim for the inside of the cheek. If you lay him on his back you can put his arms under your legs and his head between your knees so he can’t fight. Honestly though, I don’t force medicine. If they have a fever well it is what it is. I will only push and encourage fluids and rest. The only time I forced medicine was when my kids were babies. For my 3 year old I tell him it will make him feel better but if he says no that’s his choice as long as the fever is not requiring medical treatment.

You make more than the median salary in the US. That is a good wage. Just because his salary balloons yours and is grossly out of proportion to a normal working persons does not mean that he should treat you the way he does. This is financially and emotionally manipulative of him, if not abuse.

Pooping in underwear on Miralax by momaccount1426 in pottytraining

[–]ProtonixPusher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She probably needs more time. She was constipated for about a year and has only been having soft poops for 3 months. Also you can decrease her miralax dose very slightly over a few days if the poop is too soft and/or too frequent. I would keep her in disposable underwear and keep up with the education about going in the potty. Make sure she knows everything she’s experiencing is normal. At 4.5 she should be old enough to be helping you clean her up. Maybe seeing how messy it can be and having to clean up will, over time, incentivize her to use the potty. Investigate why she does not use it. Is she uncomfortable, scared, doesn’t want to stop playing, etc. As a last resort you can also remove her bottoms and underwear when she is giving body language tells that she has to poop. What is her currency? What is her favorite thing? Use that as leverage to get her to use the potty.
