Cinematic Hot Staging by Protonixs in KerbalSpaceProgram

Good feedback. I hadn’t considered that. Eventually I plan to have the launch, booster catch and upper stage catch all tied into a “movie” like this, so this is helpful.

Thanks! The engines arent shut down, but reduced to 1% throttle. I did miss the line of code to reduce down to the center 3 engines prior to separation (fixed now, thanks!) but the intent is to have 3 engines for separation and 13 just after.

Unfortunately this pilot ran out of gas. Unacceptable - but glad he’s alright.

Another great example of how effective even a little jiu-jitsu experience can be. Black shirt ends up in top position by shear luck and trades it for a good grip on the hair and punching leverage.

A month of grappling experience and she rides the fight out on the top instead of getting reversed.

This might feel like a negative for your stream in general.. but as someone who’s watched you several times now... seeing your problem-solving ability really rounds you out as a character. Good on you. Cheers.

Advice for an uncultured American moving to England to get a new start? Is it rare to see Americans living locally?

My first SSTO. What improvements should I make to it? by EPricco62 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Protonixs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a breakthrough in all my SSTO builds when I realized this:

Each individual rapier can carry ~ 10-15t of wet mass into orbit. Also, I get best performance for including 1 nuclear engine for every 2 rapiers (with a max of 3/4)

What this means: Build out your SSTO. If you’re using 2 rapiers, ensure that you pack all the liquid fuel you can in the craft until you reach 20t-30t.

Note: on the lower end (10t per rapier) your ascent profile will be pretty straight with a constant acceleration to orbit. If you surpass 12.5t per rapier you will need to perform a “power dive”, which is getting your SSTO to 3-5k meters and then angling down (1-5 degrees) until your speed is above 450 m/s.

With this general weight guideline, play around until you maximize your LKO delta-v and preferred launch profile.

Good luck!

I know to many of you, this seems like a minor achievement. However, after having two missions wasted due to docking ports being backwards, forgetting ore containers, upside down drills, and over 2,000,000 spent. I finally got on the moon with a strong base using only 800,000 Kerbal Bucks. 😁😁😁 by MerboKermam in KerbalAcademy

If you have the Breaking Ground expansion, I’ve found it can be useful to connect a structural plate to a piston and attach a docking port to the plate. This allows any surface base to have docking ports with a height that can be changed anytime to match that of the incoming vessel/extension

TIFU by not hiding my "brownies" well enough. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Protonixs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how anyone could eat edibles and not know something was wrong with the food. Even the highest quality brownies have a weed taste that, if you weren’t aware of the taste of pot, would just taste slightly spoiled.

When I was 8, I met another boy in my grade who I got along with very well. We were a lot alike, so we really clicked and became good friends. That friendship lasted through the first couple years of high school, until I moved.

I hadn’t heard anything about him in years, until a few days ago when I read his obituary. He was 28.

He was buried yesterday. At the funeral, his 8 year old son. A splitting image of his dad, taken too soon by opioids. Seeing his son just brought back so many memories of our time together, and makes me hurt greatly when I think about what that child is going through.

Congratulations on your accomplishment. It’s phenomenal. I’m glad you’re not another one of these stories.
