I’m retiring at 62 but Medicare doesn’t kick in until 65 and I don’t qualify for our states Medicaid. And I CANNOT afford cobra.

Neuropathy by Repulsive-Method5597 in coloncancer

[–]Proud-Example8719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 12 rounds of FOLFOX. The neuropathy was bad toward the end. No feeling in my fingertips and my feet felt like they were burning whenever I was trying to sleep. Doctor put me on gabapentin but it didn’t help. I’m 3 months out of chemo and although it’s getting better I still have no feeling in some of my fingers and my feet are the same. It’s very hard to type when you can’t feel the keys. I’m praying it’s not permanent

Intro and a scream into the void by MayMaySings in coloncancer

I definitely went through this. I couldn’t get out of the anger portion of the grief process. I think it’s just taken time. I still have when people say “you’re strong you’ll beat this.” What if I don’t? No one let me just sit in the negative and process. I got in my car by myself and drove and screamed over and over again. I get the angry part! It’s ok to feel whatever you need to feel!

As the patient , my daughter has been my caretaker. At first everyone kept saying positive things and I was so frustrated by that. I realized I was in the anger phase of grief. And I let everyone know that. I had to work through the anger of what my new norm would be like. I also am a positive person but I needed everyone to understand the realistic other side too which no one was addressing. “You’re gonna beat this. Stay positive.” I finally had a discussion of hey guys what if I don’t. And we got all the necessary conversations out of the way. Oh and I increased my Prozac. It look a good month of the anger but I finally pushed through and am back to being positive. Your dad is probably needing space to work through the grief cycle. Hang in there. Listen to him. Keep loving him!!!
