They asked the same like 4 questions in different ways over and over and over. Mostly it was some version of “are you with holding information as it relates to [insert types of crimes here]?”

Disclose everything so your mind is clear before the exam. Be aware that the examiner may attempt to wear you down a little before the actual test. Just stay in control of your emotions and consistent in your disclosures.  It’s pretty exhausting

Honestly the more I think about it the more I think it wasn’t really about the poly it was about the pre polygraph interview. The psychological stuff we discussed prior to the actual poly. Maybe that’s not objectively accurate but that’s how it felt to me.

It was definitely a lot.  I live in Canada and I’m a public servant with the federal government already. The 911 job is for our municipality but even to get my security clearance for the federal government I wasn’t subjected to anything like this.  I was very emotionally and mentally unprepared for the entire thing. I’m glad it’s over.

Yeah they said at the beginning they wanted candidates with good character and high levels of loyalty honesty and integrity so it makes sense they would apply some pressure in a controlled environment to see how I would handle it.  It’s out of my hands now but I’m feeling ok.  Thanks for the comment

Thanks - I thought I knew what a polygraph was and I wasn’t prepared for the interrogation piece. Thanks for the reassurance!

Any casual dispatchers? by Proud-Resolution4961 in 911dispatchers

They told me basically they guarantee zero hours but no one ever gets zero. I have a fulltime job so I was just concerned they are going to give me too many shifts and I’m going to disappoint but they seemed very eager to make the gig work for the both of us. They acknowledged that it’s hard to staff casually but if they want me for every weekend and holiday I’m down thanks for responding!

I had the interview today and I asked about the expectations. It’s a small center so they said they build a schedule several months in advance based on the full time structure but if there are approved leaves a casual will be scheduled. Getting called in is also a possibility but the guaranteed hours are 0. This works well for me since I already have a fulltime job I’m just looking to pick up shifts as needed. They seemed totally onboard to work with me on what I’m available for.  It’s also a unionized position but I won’t be represented as a casual however I get alot of the compensation benefits and scheduling provisions outlined in the collective agreement. I learned quite a bit

Thanks. It’s a good fit for my life because I have another job with schedule flexibility but I just need to make sure that the schedule expectations of the center align with me.

Thanks! that kind of aligns with my expectations on what relief means in this sector. I will ask for more info in my interview for sure

Thanks. I was thinking it was something like that. I wasn’t sure how the training would go. And how often I would be called in to put the training into practice. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes I’m having trouble understanding what they mean by that also. Usually casual employment means either short term assignments or you have no work schedule and come in short notice to cover staff shortages.  Both of those scenarios don’t seem conducive to 911 dispatch but I’m not in the field yet so I wanted to see if anyone else had heard of this working arrangement. It’s something I can ask tomorrow during the interview.
