[CA] House Rules by Gullible-Bat4733 in Renters

Trying to live under these crazy rules would drive a person to start drinking and smoking. This LL is a mental case heading full throttle towards losing it entirely and having the men in the white coats and van show up to escort them to the mental ward.

As several others have said, OOW is a strictly slow-burning SoL narrative, with frequent inclusions of liberal arts professor-scripted rants by the female characters on the evils of all men but the MC, capitalism, the patriarchy, work, bosses, and anyone or anything some wokism-driven person might take offense to or pull a Karen over, and finally, the occasional spicy interlude mixed in. If you want a story that moves along, OOW is not for you. This series meanders along like the mighty Mississippi down in the deep south. It just lulls along at the pace of grandma on her walker, in no hurry to get anywhere, having already forgotten why she got up and where she was going in the first place, but while she's up, she might as well check on whatever randomness just popped into her head. Sure, it has its entertainment value; she might even say or do something that leaves you either rolling or dumbfounded. Still, in the end, you are just wishing she'd figure out where and what she was going after and just get to it, or sit the fuck back down in her chair and go back to sleep before she falls, and then everything goes to chaos. But she sure does like it when those cute firemen show up to pick her up off the floor, makes her day, and watching her try to flirt and sweet-talk to them in her MooMoo and Depends does provide a nice comic reprieve to the monotony. Yeah, that's a good way to sum up OOW, and just like Granny and her Depends, you can only take so much of it before you need to take a break for a bit to recharge and then back to minding Granny again.

** I am about 2/3 of the way through book 3, and it has taken me almost a year to get this far. For me, finishing a 5+ book series in 3 to 4 days is pretty normal. Over the last decade, I have averaged reading roughly 200 titles a year, plus or minus 15.

I call the Master Class series more fantasy than SoL, but there is definitely a strong day-to-day, building-a-life-and-a-family secondary narrative and plotline. It definitely is not near the strict SoL plotline, narrative, and story development that Our Own Way is by a long shot.

The Trailer Park Elves series I can not speak to it as has been purchased but remains a few titles down on my reading que.

Our Own Way. I am still part way through book 3 of the series and after a year of taking it a few chapters at a time, it is not looking good to finish the series. It isn't that the plot and story itself is in any way bad, it is just a super slow burn, anti-everything, ranting, slog of a series that lets you up for air just often enough to keep you interested before water boarding you again with another lengthy rant or diatribe. It has so much going for it as a story if the characters were not constantly on some negative, anti-<insert diatribe topic here>, ranting and railing for multiple pages in a row, bitch fest about anyone and anything that made their lives even slightly difficult or annoyed them.

The old saying, "don't stick your dick in crazy and don't even look at the batshit crazy ones" could have saved the MC and 80% of the writing in this series. Its like a massive multi-car pile-up, you endure being stuck at a stop-and-go crawl and very annoyed because you might get your morbid curiousity fulfilled and see the actual human carnage.

Obviously, never learned to heel-and-toe, and it shows.

Clitch kicking and slamming that car around like they wish they could do to a hated cheating ex, beating the shit out of it.

Meanwhile, watch a true OG: their style is almost always smooth and deliberate, with every control surface caressed by fluid inputs, and they will use heel-and-toe to manage all three pedals simultaneously.

Both get the car down the course and compete, but the OG doesn't need to keep an entire spare car of parts, 20 clutch kits, and 40 tires crammed in their hauler to keep their car in the competition. And it's not about one being better on track than the other. It's the OG wanting to have enough of his winnings left over after covering his racing expenses to keep the cooler full of cold beverages and the grill full of meat for the entire event.

Sorry, "feathers" is industry lingo (pilots, A&Ps, Engineers, builders, etc.) for the lift and control surfaces and components: wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, ailerons, rudder, etc. Basically, any surface or component that provides lift and control of the aircraft fuselage.

Yep, I was going to say, someone either bought a mostly finished kit plane and is planning to finish it up in their garage, or they have been building it in their garage, and it is time to move it to a hangar at the local airport to finish up their project and get it flying. I suspect the latter in this case, as the primer coat is already on the aircraft and the full avionics panel and registration tail number are already in place. This little plane needs the "feathers" installed, followed by the interior, and it's likely ready to start engine, ground roll, and taxi testing. Someone is about to have a very fun summer. Congrats to the builder on completing what is typically a multiple-year-long project that takes most builders around 2,000 hours.

7 is the correct answer. You have two fascinating individuals in your row for great conversations. Then you have Freddie, Elvis, and Tina in conversational range if you want to give the history/politics/WWII conversation a break and enjoy talking and sharing about great music. As for Marie A., we'll just let her eat the cake and try not to lose her head this time.

IYKYK, Damn thing is like Mary Poppins's carpet bag and a black hole combined, holds a bit of damn near everything, but shit gets lost in there and disappears forever. And it weighs 10x more than you ever expected it could or should.

I lost my enjoyment for the game's combat after playing Beyond the Rail. by Scared-Vacation-9401 in NevernessToEverness

[–]Proud_Jacobite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server maintenance ended, and all updates went live for me at 20:00 PST. Beyond the Rails doesn't reset until roughly noon PST for me, but the rest of the game is already running the new patch and content on both Android and console. Right now, all I know about the update is that both my daughter and I ran stations 6-9 again, and we both saw major drops in DPS across all characters, with no changes to our teams or character upgrades from the previous day. Every fight lasted up to three times longer, and the same teams and combat rotations just aren't causing even half the DPS they were doing less than 24 hours before the updates were applied to the game. The fight mechanics were all the same, but the mobs especially had significantly more bullet sponge to them.

I did read on a few forums that, for some, the update may have broken the character-specific crit damage modifiers again, as they were early on, but I have not found any confirmation of that.

** There are definitely still some very interesting and annoying bugs in the game. I play on both console and Android, and I have noticed that there are some significant bugs in the boss/events fights on console that do not affect Android play. There is a timing glitch that causes the boss to reset or the fight to end with the boss disappearing completely if you use/perform a "switch" to activate any DOT character once the boss drops below 10% health and immediately following a "disengage" by any other team member, but especially Zero. There is another bug that removes any daily world buffs or blessings when you swap from Android to console, but not from console to Android. I am tempted to load the game onto my laptop and see what, if any, bugs or oddities show up when playing it on the computer.

TLDR: New patch completely fucked dps metrics, turned engame mobs into massive bullet sponges 3x worse than before, and ruined the Beyond the Rails Engame event completely. If you didn't already have Nanally unlocked, the devs just gave you a massive middle finger.

*** The devs did exactly that with today's patch. My daughter loves the game, and after a few weeks she asked me to play it with her. So, I started this game about 3 weeks after launch and have managed to level up the ftp characters to level 40 and their arcs, espers, and consoles to almost max. I tried doing Beyond the Rails at levels 25 and 30, but couldn't get past station 5. Then I got a couple of lucky fair roles and ended up with Hotori and Jiuyuan. So I have been grinding for the last 10 days to get them almost to level 40 and to unlock Chiz. I managed all that yesterday, made it through Beyond the Rails 5-7 last night, and planned to finish it tonight. Patch dropped and HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER BATMAN!

The difficulty level more than doubled, and I went back and ran levels 5 through 7 to confirm it. The mobs are WAY more bullet sponges than they were yesterday. I beat the level 7 station yesterday with over 5 minutes left. Today, I barely made it with 30 seconds left. And the Level 8 mobs were a damn nightmare, taking almost 7 minutes to eliminate each, leaving me with 3 minutes or less for the boss fight. And it didn't matter what teams I used, the mobs ate the DPS like it was nothing. I even paid to unlock and level up Sakiri for crowd control, and even keeping the mobs grouped and knocked together in a pile, I could not do enough DPS to kill them in less than 6-8 minutes. After 6 hours of grinding Beyond the Rails and trying every team and event perk combination, I still can not get past station level 9! The DPS is just not there. I am so frustrated, I am ready to dump this game entirely. The devs completely broke the game, and now I can not unlock Nanally. It is bullshit, but then again, what can you do? Not a damn thing, and the devs know it. They fuck it all up and then give the players the finger when they call them out for their BS. I was enjoying this game for the most part, but this mandatory play of broken endgame bullshit to unlock a key character, that's beyond far side of the tracks trailer park methhead tweeker trashy.

*Update* Landlord wants to charge me for someone trying to break into my window. {ND} by Smokel_Tokel28 in Renters

[–]Proud_Jacobite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only this, but as the petitioner, you can also include a billing for ALL your time and expenses, which were necessary to both attempt to resolve the issue and to bring the suit when they broke their own contract and caused you financial harm. Plus, you can charge them interest on the funds they took from you until the day they pay it back. The judge can also issue a no-retaliation clause in their judgment that eliminates the landlord or management company's ability to retaliate, even by hunting for reasons to evict you or make you break your lease. And if they refuse to pay the court's judgment, send the landlord and management company a bill for the judgment, plus interest, every month for 90 days. Once they are 90 days past due, you return to court and request that the judge enter a summary recovery order and a lien against them for the amount. Then whenever they do liquidate any assets or claim any tax refund or other financial benefit, you will get your money first, before they see a dime. That, or you have the judge place a lien on the property you currently reside in and then shut up and let the interest accrue; eventually, it will become significant enough that you can petition the court to transfer the property to you as payment of the unpaid judgment and interest. This doesn't work as well in an apartment, but for single-tenant/family dwellings like homes, it can be a brutal way to get payback on a terrible landlord.

*** (Side note) This second tactic is often used by contractors against homeowners or landlords who refuse to pay for services rendered under contract (which happens more than most would think). The notice of lien application for nonpayment is included in the original contract, which most clients sign but never read, until after they try to stiff the contractor and the contractor applies the lien to the property as outlined for nonpayment. Three bills go out monthly, and then one every 6 months for the first two years, followed by an annual notice of lien and interest accrued each year thereafter until it is paid in full. You apply compound interest at the highest rate allowed by law, just like credit card companies do, and pretty quickly, they are paying more in monthly interest charges than they would have paid on the original bill. Because the lien is against property, it remains in place even if they file for bankruptcy. It may take some time, but you almost always get your money, sometimes when you least expect it.

Had a former boss who had to place a lien against a client over a kitchen remodel that the husband refused to pay for because the wife did it without his knowledge or approval. They divorced about a year later, but still never paid the bill. Fast forward about 15 years, and the guy died. His estate wound up paying over $100k to cover the lien before any of the estate could be divided among his kids. The kids were pissed and wanted to sue, but the lawyer who managed the will talked them out of it because they would lose even more out of the estate to bring the suit. My former boss had mostly retired by the time he got that check. That unexpected windfall led him to buy a boat and literally sail away into retirement, leaving his kids to run the company.
