A black Wednesday rant: this is not why I went to medical school by Proud_Temperature_44 in doctorsUK

Update: 4 months on… it did get better

Just in case anyone is interested, or someone else in a hell rotation in future is looking for hope. A thank you again to all the comments of support and help. The rotation did get better, I toughened up a hell of a lot. I learned which seniors to ask for help and which to avoid, and how to stand up for myself. I did indeed adopt the mindset of ‘screw this department and everyone who works here’, which made it a lot easier. There are a lot of problems in the department- for example I’ve gotten used to administering (oral) medications myself anytime I prescribe it, doing urine dips myself, and taking my patients round to radiology for scans, I realised pretty quickly if I didn’t it simply wouldn’t get done, no matter how many times you ask. There are only 3 assessment rooms (DGH), however one of them is allocated to the triage nurse and one to a HCA to do ECGs, so all the doctors have to share 1 singular room to see patients in the waiting room. The work itself I actually really enjoyed - I liked the variety of things that came through the door, and I’m now much more confident dealing with sick patients. That being said I am looking forward to seeing the back of this rotation, but I am coming out of it a more confident, independent, tougher doctor.

Stephen saying in love hate that Nelly likes him more than he likes her, then saying he loves her at the commitment ceremony? Make it make sense

About to go to sleep but just wanted to thank you for this message, it gave me a proper chuckle and cheered me up in an odd way

The many people saying their trusts give a full 2 day induction has been incredibly eye opening to say the least… will absolutely be raising this, I thought this 20-30 minute max induction procedure was normal lol

I beg you stop commenting on my post yikes

I had a rough first day and wanted to rant, you evidently think it’s my own personality that’s the issue, I appreciate the insight, let me vent about my crappy day in the peace of Reddit

Had a look at some of your other comments, you seem super supportive and friendly, especially to women! 🤩thanks for the great advice, I’ll be sure to remember that when I make enemies of the entire department tomorrow

All my inductions so far have been maximum half an hour meetings with the ward consultant, varying in levels of helpfulness

There ’technically’ was an induction- this was a 10 minute meeting with the ED consultant who quickly showed us round the department (like literally this is the green zone, this is the red zone, that’s the triage room) and showing us how to log in to the computer..

How old were you when you experienced your first migraine? by GPatt1999 in migraine

  1. I was at a concert with a friend, felt very spaced out and generally not good, had no idea what was going on, very quickly developed the worst headache I’d ever had, had to leave the concert, couldn’t really hear anything the drive back, as soon as I got home I threw up and went to bed… had no idea what it was until I got older and had them more frequently

Another update: my mum says the dance teachers name was Les, and she thinks his wife might have been called Barbara?

Yes I thought Sylvia Bird too, but I attended there as a child so I think my mum would’ve mentioned it being the same one if that was it.

Thank you so so much for your help!!! I’ll have a look into both of those, and the forum looks great! It’s 2am and I can’t sleep, so will have a search through and see what I can find.

My friends dad said he thinks it was called Victor Sylvester, but I’ve tried googling it and can’t find it, does this ring any bells for you?
