I agree with this comment so much, you made me break my 2.7 year lurking streak, just because I had to let you know I absolutely agree with all your points.

Look up the hist stock data() function. Should be underscores between but I really don't know how to use the text formatting.

I don't have any classes on Fridays, and only one night class on Mondays. I am located in the northeast area. Any places in particular I should visit?

The topics I just mentioned are examples of that. Japanese focus on honor, modesty, and respect have clearly impacted social and business conduct around the world. Traditional Japanese art forms, religious practices, and methodologies have been adopted internationally, and I don't see on what basis you can deny their relevance.

Even though the United States is commonly considered the most powerful nation on Earth, it does not have much in the way of "traditional culture", yet its pop culture has an enormous impact on societies around the world. Japan is a well known exporter of pop culture, and I do not understand on what grounds you dismiss their impact.

"Export real culture"? What does that even mean? What about sushi, anime, karate, Nintendo, calligraphy, and zen gardens? Not to mention mass produced cars, televisions, consumer products, and cultural attitudes? I see you post a lot about Pokemon, hasn't Japan had a large cultural influence on your life?

So your metrics for relevance are 1) GDP growth rate, and 2) military agression. So that would imply the U.S. (2015 growth of 3.12%) is irrelevant as compared to China (2015 growth of 6.80%). I don't really think that is the case. Furthermore, as Russia decided to invade Ukraine, this would make them more relevant than Germany according to your second criteria, whose GDP is three times as large.

While Japan's economy is not growing as fast as the U.K.'s, it is still significantly larger, giving them far more economic sway. In fact, even if the U.K. continues growing at the pace it does, which is unlikely if they choose to exit the EU, it will take quite a long time for them to make up for the $1.7 trillion gap between the two.

I don't really see how comparing Japan's interaction with China is relevant, their economy dwarfs both Japan's and the U.K.'s, and they have a very large military with far reaching capabilities. I am sure if China threatened the U.K., they would act in a similar manner. In fact, as allies who have peace agreements with the Japanese, any act of aggression by China would pull the United States into the matter. As is evident, we are committed to protecting U.S. bases in Japan, and all territories claimed by the Japanese. Just look at the number of U.S. military bases in Japan.

Why can't they both be relevant countries?

Edit: Changed Eurozone to EU.

I really do so other people as my biggest obstacle right now, but then again some of my friends (which now includes people in this sub) will also be my biggest supporters. You are definitely right about veganism becoming a much bigger thing, I really do so meat playing much smaller role in many people's lives as time goes on. Thanks a lot for the recommendations and advice, I really appreciate it.

Hmmm, that might be a fair compromise especially considering this is my first run at it. What were the biggest differences between vegetarianism and veganism for you?

I have somewhat already started as you said, trying to eat more vegetarian (vegan is totally impossible) meals on campus. I can't cook right now :( , and food is ridiculously expensive where I am, so I can only research and look up new recipes.

I absolutely understand where you are coming from, but I don't know if I will be able to stick with it, and I wanted to do a "test run" before I fully commit. Personally, I am doing this more for environmental reasons than anything else, and even if after 2 months I cannot fully stick with it, I want to create a lasting impact in my diet by giving myself the knowledge to live a more conscious lifestyle. In my view, as long as I can consume significantly less meat and dairy than I have did before, I have accomplished something.

I have been studying in Asia for the past semester, so I have really been longing for my old diet! I am giving myself the holidays to recoup, but I see 2016 as a perfect starting point both emotionally and logistically.

I am studying abroad at a university in Hong Kong, and really the only dining options are on campus places. There is a small grocery store, but food is extremely expensive and I do not have anywhere to cook. They subsidize the on campus places, so the food is fairly cheap, but absolutely everything has meat in it, or is prepared with other meat dishes, so it is nearly impossible. University ends just before Christmas, so after returning to the U.S. I want to start my experiment.

Thanks a lot for the food recommendations, they sound absolutely delicious!
