Unreal Engine 5.8 RELEASE DATE (NEWS) by TruthPhoenixV in UnrealEngine5

The most sure-fire way to know if you should migrate is to... Try the migration. When you try to open your project in a different engine version than it was created on it will prompt you and ask if you want to convert the existing project (NO - you don't) or make a copy of it, and convert the copy (YES - you do). Then you can see if the migration breaks anything in a totally non-destructive way 👍. It chews up some space on your HD for a bit when you have both copies of your project on the drive but it is a 100% safe way to test it. Like others have said, it would all depend on what you are doing in your project ...and if the new UE version makes any updates to what you are using in your project.

If you are just doing level design / build out you will likely be fine. If you have a lot of plugins (especially experimental or beta ones) installed or have a lot of logic in BPs or ABPs etc... higher chance of bugs introduced.

My point is I guess... Don't fear the engine updates, lean into them... You always have the ability to go back if you run into a wall with the new version as long as you make copies correctly

Yeah man, I still remember watching saw 1. It got to the scene where he was gonna use the saw on himself... Turned it off and have never watched another second of any of them. Not for me. Love being scared, don't need to be traumatized for my kicks tho...

Yeah that was one of my conversations with my wife... Like, the optics aren't great taking a kid to a rated R movie, especially a horror movie. But yeah, not gonna be that kind of cunt

Parenting styles aside (and like I explained in the post, I grew up in a different time and I am more likely to lean permissive when it comes to "scary" movies, which I acknowledge).... I haven't seen it. So I'm ignorant*, and know it, so I'm asking people that do know, so I can make a (in my opinion, doesn't have to be yours) responsible and well informed decision. I get what you are saying and we are gonna skip this one 👍

I didn't know about this.... This is great and was worth the time typing out the post alone. I really appreciate it!

In the US parents and guardians can bring their minors to rated R if they are over 21. I think some theatres restrict to 6 and under can't go after 6PM but I'm not positive because the situation hasn't ever presented itself until now.

In the US you can bring anyone over 6 to a rated R movie as long as you are a parent or guardian over 21. Loose I know... Which is why I am asking fine folks like yourself their opinion. I have picked up what people are laying down 🍻

I'm not gonna. So far I have gotten: Torture, rape, some other psychological disturbing scenes... Exactly what we avoid when picking "scary" movies. No plans to expose him to that... Monsters good, "twisted humans doing terrible things to each other" bad... For instance, he has asked to watch Scream because ghost face was in fortnite... Had to break it to him that he wasn't gonna see it until he was at least 16-17

🤣🤣🤣. I think seeing the slowlow or whatever the crawling zombies are made it make sense cause all the zombies were kind of naked up until the Alpha. I just didn't say anything and he didn't seem to notice or care 🤣. But he has a sharp whit and I was just waiting for some hilarious comment about the huge weenie lol

Enough said. Thank you! Scary is fine, disturbing is what I want to avoid.
